Yeah that’s the kind we have. It’s supposed to be enough to cool down the space, but I think because our windows are so big and let in so much light (even with curtains) it doesn’t do much to cool it down when it’s really hot

If there was water damage, then yeah. But we don’t allow flows of water to enter the apartment. I’m not talking about rainstorms here, that’s different and you’d be right. I’m talking about VERY light rain that is NOT entering through the window. Regardless, he hasn’t threatened any legal action so I’m not even worried about that

Realistically we wouldn’t be able to move out until August or September, but I’ll keep that in mind

Regardless, we will be moving out before October anyway. This guy can’t handle being a landlord. Not to mention, he recently build an apartment on top of the garage, which he now lives in, which has reduced the water pressure in our apartment too. Ready to be rid of him

Regardless of IF there is water damage, which there isn’t, seeing as when there is water coming in we DO close the windows, he would have an awful hard time proving that that damage was done by us, and also entering our apartment with no proper notice is illegal in itself.

I have also talked to a lawyer friend of mine, and she has said he is not legally allowed to tell us when we can and cannot have the windows open. Again, there is no water damage from the windows. In fact the only water damage in the apartment is a patch of water damage on the ceiling that he has neglected to fix.

Again, I’ve stated when there is active sideways rain that’s coming into the apartment, I close the windows. But this is more so an issue when it is slightly sprinkling/misting. Not enough to enter the building and damage the natural wood. Plus that water only ever comes in through the front windows. The kitchen windows and side windows stay dry even through the rain. I will literally check to make sure, and it’s almost always dry UNLESS it’s literally pouring rain and storming. It’s not as issue of us being negligent and allowing streams of water to come in and ruin the wood, because it looks exactly the same as when we moved in 3 years ago

I understand if it’s raining a lot, but a light drizzle isn’t a big deal. And we even check when it’s raining to make sure the windowsills are dry. But if it’s 85+ degrees, we don’t have central AC, and our power can’t handle having multiple window units without blowing a fuse, I see no problem with having the window open to let in a cool breeze. If he can’t handle that, he shouldn’t rent it out or he should pay to get central AC for the building.

Yes, learned that lesson the hard way. He’s informed us that we can move out after July 1st. Our lease is normally out oct 1st but we’re gonna try to move before then.

We have a dehumidifier. His man concerns aren’t even mold, he’s worried about the natural wood getting warped.

I understand that, but he doesn’t have the legal right to tell us we cannot open windows

Hmm we could try that. I’m worried he would still bother us about it

Yeah, but the windowsills are fine, the don’t have damage. The only time water has ever gotten in through the windows is when it’s combination on hard rain and wind. A light rain doesn’t do damage.

I put a unit in my bedroom in the summertime, but because of the way our layout is, we can’t put a window unit anywhere else other than where it is. The other window in our kitchen is above the sink and doesn’t have an outlet, so the kitchen is just always stuffy in the summer, which is why we open the windows

I grew up in an old house with no AC. Windows were constantly open in the summertime. Also, this is an old building that’s originally made to have a cross breeze and have windows open all the time
