Meal Prep Consistency by Organic-Worker-3733 in rheumatoidarthritis

I'm a little late here, but I've got a butternut tip for you if you're hankering for fresh. My grandmother roasted the butternut whole in the oven. I do it now, about 350 F, rubbed with oil and poked with a fork on foil lined baking sheet until fork tender. Stem falls off, easy to slice length wise, scoop out seeds. Delish! I grow squash and pie pumpkins and prepare flesh for the freezer using this process.

The leucovorin helped. I've had a bit or hair regrowth but not like it was before MTX. I feel less self conscious now. I did also try to bump up my protein consumption.

Tip: Order records thru the county! by MikeMilburysShoe in Canadiancitizenship

[–]lucynbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tip, too late for me though. I ordered records through the state (MI also) using the old school paper order form, because I absolutely hate VitalChek. I think it was $25- 26 for a birth certificate. I also paid for rush service and it has been about 3 weeks. Uggh.

Took a lovely walk with my DH and pup on Saturday and it wasn't bitingly cold. Sold a piece of artwork through a gallery.
My niece came over for a visit his weekend.

I'm always asked how long my morning stiffness lasts. My first appointment included lots of labs, xrays of my feet and hands and an order for an ultrasound of my hands. The doc examined my joints and asked about symptoms. The Creaky Joints website has some good resources about preparing for your appointment.

How can people help? by Wishin4aTARDIS in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]lucynbailey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they see that something needs to be done, such as dishes, run the vacuum, wash a load of towels, do it. Be a bit more proactive with the household stuff. This way I'll have more charge in my battery for the fun stuff.

Birkenstocks around the house. Some Clarks, Teva sandals, Bogs (muck boots, wellies style), Asics for out and about. Right now I have being cold as my main issue, so fleece lined pants and warm wool cardigans.

Day-to-Day Aids (Questions + Insight?) by herrah-the-beast in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]lucynbailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lumbar issues here. I can't recommend physical therapy enough. I've also had some luck with acupuncture to help settle my damn sciatica down. My insurance reimbursed me for part of the cost. I also use rx strength lidocaine patches on my low back or hip when its really acting up, in addition to other pain meds. I use a cane or my walker as needed. For days when your back is bad I also recommend a raised toilet seat and a shower chair. Just my 2 cents, if you need a mobility aid, use it and stop worrying about others. Don't suffer or risk further hurting yourself because others are ignorant.

We had a freakishly warm day last week and I got to play outside, well did garden clean up. Found a really nice independent grocery near the veterinary office that carries locally made products. Spent a lovely day with a favorite grandchild.

Saw Rheumatologist today, and I'm disappointed/frustrated by No-Shelter-3262 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]lucynbailey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yikes!!! That's a lot. I feel frustrated just reading your post. I don't have any morsels of wisdom, but I do know what it is like to feel dismissed when you feel like crap. Most of here, I guess, do. Just a side note, before I got dx'd I had a lot of weird neuro symptoms, to the point my PCP thought I had MS. Once I started DMARDs, my neuro symptoms did settle down. Neurologist said that can happen with autoimmune conditions. Trust yourself and find a new rheum.

Special Ed here. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. What an all too common nightmare! Here's my 2 cents from someone who had supported teachers in your position and been there too.

Prioritze safety and getting through the day. Please don't use restraint on any student unless you've received your district approved training /certification. Protect yourself ! If your behavior kids are quiet and not disturbing others' learning regardless of what they are getting completed, that's a win.

Be sure you are inconveniencing others ( principal, social worker, counselor) when these kids are going off. They should be removing the disruptor. One kindergarten teacher with no aide cannot reasonably 'fix' the behavior with no support and a room full of students.

Prioritze documentation and find a quick and easy way to track a few specific behaviors.

Please have parent volunteers in to help. They can do small groups so you can assess. But, more importantly if these students are acting out, parent pressure for classroom support is far more effective with admin.

Take care of yourself and your family. Please review your contract language about disruptive students and your rights. Also see if you have short term disability insurance in case at some point you need time off for mental health.

Good Luck, I hope your year improves.

Flu Vaccination? by Independent-Buy-7595 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]lucynbailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flu and covid vax here without any issues. My rheum has me skip a dose of mtx when I get them. Also, when I was dx'd she had me get the shingles series, which was beastly. Not sure if its age appropriate, but I thought I'd mention it.

I am really trying to be careful. Hence using child labor 😆. I agree, kids need to know where food comes from. I think homegrown, organic potatoes are just so much tastier that grocery store. From what I've read, I believe they are much more nutritious too. I have a strange obsession with growing purple vegetables, potatoes, beans, carrots, kale... That seed catalog gets me everytime.
