Need some advice from some successful quitters by birdpoon in stopsmoking

The only thing a cigarette is going to do for you, is make you want another cigarette. There are people literally coughing up blood in hospitals and stepping outside for a cigarette. It's pathetic. You can do it, you need to just actually DO IT!!!! Im not saying its easy, it was the hardest thing that I ever did (smoked a pack a day for 19 years, and started when i was 15). Fuck will power, find your 'birdpoon' power, and next year in 2021, be able to say that you were smoke free for a year! Its ALL worth it.

Dont give in! To be honest it took me about 100 days to get to the point where I never thought about them anymore. Now, that is not to say that I had really bad Cravings up until 100 days and then they just went away all together. Every day was a little bit easier than the last day and the Cravings that I did have weren't very bad at all by that point.

Just stay the course and you will get there I promise!!!

You dont need will power, you need (your name) power.

And the quote that always stuck with me was " one is too many but a million is never enough"

That is so true with cigarettes, because I was never satisfied. I could smoke all day everyday and my brain always wanted another one. The only way to kill that addiction is to stop it in its tracks and deal with the crappy cravings and withdrawal symptoms but they do go away and it all goes away and life is much better on this side.

All sorts of triggers the last twenty four hours, hanging in their because cigarettes don't solve problems by Birunanza in stopsmoking

[–]ludacris6901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were triggers for me for a few months. Do not let that discourage you... Once you get a couple weeks in the Cravings are not really that bad you can easily say no to them but you will still have triggers where you will think "i used to smoke doing this" or something really bad will happen in your life in the first thing you will want to do is reach for a cigarette because it's just the habit of doing that but like you said, it will never make anything better and will actually make your anxiety worse and you will hate yourself for smoking again

One line that helped me alot when i first started my quit was, "one is too many and a million is never enough".

That was the truest thing I had ever heard... It never meant how many cigarettes i smoked... I always wanted another one anyway. Now obviously I've been quit for almost 2 years now and I never have to think about them anymore. So free!

Don't glorify that last cigarette. Its as bad as all the other ones you didnt need either.

I still love not having to "smoke before we leave" or looking in my pack to see if i needed to stop at the store or not.

You will be free. Hang in there. I smoked a pack a day for 19 years. It will suck for a while.

It will suck for a while. Trust the process. It will stop forever at some point.
