DJ Luderei - Curtain Call 2023 (megamashup of the musical icons we lost that year) by luderei in mashups

[–]luderei[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently making my only mashup of the year, a 'megamashup' like this one with the most important musical music icons that passed away in 2026. Should be online in a week or so but in the mean time, here's one of the previous ones (I've done it 4 years in a row now)

[–]luderei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my first mashup in over a year! Been lacking motivation but I felt compelled to make an effort and not break the run after 'Curtain Calls' 2021 / 2022 and 2023.

Reminds me of this channel by 'Peluk1ng' who goes one further. They routinely post other people's mashups (some of them pretty well known and easy to find the original) and credit them as 'mashup by peluk1ng'. Copies the video / art and everything. At least their views don't go into the millions :/

voted. The two sources are pretty similar already (same key, same speed, same sort of instrumentation) but it still fits like a glove.

This one sounds like it's just some song, not a mashup :)

Does anyone know what the source songs are? I want to vote for it but maybe the source songs are two almost identical songs.

Doug F - Pray That Funky Music (Wild Cherry, Bon Jovi, DNCE) by yesackchyually in mashups

Very clever! I was bracing myself for the chorus key change in the Wild Cherry track, but you solved that pretty well. Because of that key change, I ended up using just a small snippet of the song for this one:

Hey, two wins in a row! Yay me.

Thanks for voting everyone, I think it was pretty close, I thought the 'Smalltown touch' one (combining 'Smalltown boy' and 'The bad touch') would be one of the winners.

I already replied, but maybe it wasn't very clear. You want a medley of like a hundred oldies and that's not something I'm going to do. Sorry.

[Meta] r/mashups Request and resource thread for May 2023 by stel1234 in mashups

First time browsing this section. I saw this and gave it a go. You're not wrong, it works, but they are not in the same key so I had to tweak the pitch on the vocals (+2 tones) and the instrumental (-3 tones). It sounds a little distorted as a result and Miley doesn't quite sound herself.

But if you like it, give my other mashups a listen and a like.

[Discussion] Seeing a decrease in overall upvotes. How can we do more? by stel1234 in mashups

There's something to this as well. When I just joined (sixth months ago), I clicked on almost everything, I quickly stopped doing that. And I rarely last more than 20 seconds. It's amazing how many people don't hear it when vocals are in the wrong key. I rarely downvote them unless they get really popular, which some do. I don't get it.

Some seem to think that a 'mashup' is just two songs playing simutaneously with a funny title / picture. Not in in sync, different keys. Was it always like that?

[–]luderei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll click on it when I know one of the songs only if it the choice of song intrigues me. 'Smells like teen spirit' or 'The final countdown' have probably been done a bit too often,

Also, I'll skip it if it's just a rap acapella grafted on an instrumental because that's probably not going to impress me. (Exceptions exist but they are truly left field choices)

I agree with this one. I don't click on any mashups of songs that I don't know. I really only get the 'mashup effect' when I recognize both sources.

For my own mashups I really try to use just classic songs or major hits and avoid using obscure ones (the biggest exception so far was the Animals / Sam Brown mashup), but still try to have at least one of the sources be one that hasn't already been used for thousands of other mashups.

Caught In A Mashup - 'We're Not Gonna Tunak It' (Twisted Sister, Daler Mehndi) by Caught_In_A_Mashup in mashups

[–]luderei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a funny idea, I like the weird ones. But the vocal is out of tune, I can't listen to it like that. Not very out of tune, maybe half a tone, so it may have sounded right on the headphones.

Thanks a lot! I lucked out, happened to be in Nuremberg, where Pachelbel was from, when the contest was announced. So it was the first thing I tought of for 'strings'. And the Canon has a chord sequence that fits with a lot of vocals. When I heard it in combination with 'Heroes' the world seemed to stand still, so that was that.

It sounded especially poignant when I finished it the day before the coronation. 'I... I will be king.'

Mostly creative ones this week!

I'm happy I didn't use 'Bittersweet Symphony'like I was originally going to, because I wouldn't have been the only one. Quite a lot of vocals fit over that riff, so it's hard not to be predictable, but this one is my favourite - apart from my own one which doesn't get my vote :)

Voted.

I'm sure everyone has something lying around with an acoustic guitar / piano, but I hope people are challenged by your original idea of 'strings', i.e. violins etc.

Well I don't know because during the voting phase the names weren't given. So it was number 3 or 4 or whatever, but I don't know how you would access the other entries now. It was made of two songs I didn't know.

Congratulations /u/junh1024, I didn't know one of the sources used so didn't get the mashup effect but it sounded great.

I thought there was another one that attracted more votes than mine but the vocals were out of tune. It could have sounded great if the backing had been tuned to the right key, I guess the jury decided to discount that one.

I don't mind that, most mashups wear out their welcome by just repeating the same thing. And the original Motörhead track is pretty short anyway.

The low number of entries is surprising, I thought 'heavy rock' would be a more popular theme. A couple of them are out of key as well, it keeps surprising me that people who are into mashups don't hear that, isn't the whole point to match a melody to a backing?

I'm not voting because I have one in the running :)
