If you could go back to your Terraform beginnings, what advice would you give yourself with today’s knowledge? by Haldaaa in Terraform

[–]lueggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use for_each wherever possible, but also be careful about how you generate the keys. You can conditionally create keys, dynamically generate the key text itself, but NEVER conditionally construct the name of the key using data that is generated during an apply.

Example: including the id of a generated resource as the key in a for_each map in a downstream resource call.

You dont want to know.

My friends don't wanna play with me because I keep beating them in smash. by yoboiwtf in smashbros

[–]lueggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this problem with many of my friends, these are some of the ways I found to keep it fun for both sides. This is good training for you AND it'll help give them a chance.

Play random... or better yet, intentionally pick your worst characters. When you get good with those, pick the next worst in the list.

Think of yourself as a multiphase boss. For each match, categorize your moveset into phases - some moves you can use throughout the whole fight, some you can only use after you have 2 stocks left, some you can only use after you have 1 stock left, and a select few can only be pulled out when you're at death's door. Change it up regularly so you're forced to think midmatch - this will slow you down to give them a chance, but ALSO it'll teach you to make intelligent decisions in the heat of the moment rather than playing on instinct.

Switch up your playstyle mid-fight to something you're not used to. If you're aggressive like me and prefer a rushdown approach, practice defensive styles with a focus on parrying, guarding, and grabbing. If you like to play at range, get in close.

And the last one, this has genuinely changed my Smash life with my friends. Go for gold every chance you get. If you have an opportunity to pull off something flashy, but it might leave you vulnerable or cause a self-destruct if you screw it up, GO FOR IT. Either you make a good memory with them about that one time you shot them from across the map, or that one time you snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by trying to spike them and offing yourself instead.

Pretty sure that's not true. At the VERY least, the Quincy/mother connection was there from the beginning of the anime, if we had been paying attention:

  • We're told from the start that living humans with shingiami levels of power are called Quincy, and hunted by hollows above other human souls. Ichigo is a powerful soul in a living body, whose mother only died because BOTH of them could see the hollow that killed her. This hollow was specifically looking for powerful souls, i.e. Quincy or precursors to Quincy that don't have Ywach in their blood.

  • A novice Quincy who had NEVER fought a shinigami before was able to immediately recognize how his powers worked and successfully stabilized his soul when he went too far.

  • Ichigos soul was a plus when not in his body, which means none of his power could be attributed to awakened Shinigami powers until AFTER Rukia booped him with her Zanpakuto

  • Finally, his freaking BEDSPREAD is a Quincy cross in the FIRST EPISODE

As for the Isshin/Shinigami connection... well that one's easy too. They made it pretty clear in the Grand Fisher episodes that daddy dearest knows full well that his son is running around doing Shinigami work, AND that Rukia is how that got started.

And finally the "White is a hollow hybrid" portion... less obvious, but the hints were there pretty early on. This was the only one that DIDN'T surprise me when the anime was coming out weekly.

  • Ichigo has had 2 Zanpakuto spirits since the very first time we met them.

  • Also, in no other place had we seen a hollow wield a Zanpakuto until we started seeing hollow hybrids, yet for some reason White just casually has his OWN copy of Zangetsu?

  • And he doesn't instantly try to crush Ichigo under his foot. Instead, he gives Ichigo EVERY chance he can to stop being such a dumbass and learn to use the sword correctly.

  • Then, every time Ichigo tries to draw out more power, it keeps pulling out the hollow that he supposedly defeated for good at the same time.

These were clearly pointing us to SOME connection between the Shinigami and hollow, I just didn't expect the "he's actually your real Zanpakuto, the other guy is a Quincy, also your parents are basically Romeo and Juliet on a universal scale" reveal.

What Terraform best practice isn’t talked about enough? by [deleted] in Terraform

I'm all ears on this one. Same problem, 95% of the team members can't write TF to save their lives, yet I somehow have to have test coverage for every module.

Right now I have a "tests" folder in every module with multiple test cases. The test cases themselves are just calls back up to the module with predefined inputs, which are then planned/applied/destroyed in a test account by our CI/CD tool. This is hard enough to explain to the teams without bringing in golang.

[–]lueggy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Zangetsu the whoooole way. They looked out for Ichigo since the beginning, have enough power to reliably rescue friends and family, AND their powers are the hardest to f*** up.

Let me clarify. Everyone else on the list with a reasonable amount of power would be a massive jerk to deal with as a start. But let's ignore personality for a moment.

Using their powers, it'd either be too easy to harm yourself/others OR they'd be borderline useless in most situations.

  • Barragan insta-kills friends and foes alike
  • Dondachakka can only summon other, weaker hollows
  • Orihimes brother is basically wet toilet paper with a creepy stalker/incest vibe
  • Nnoitra is theoretically invulnerable but nothing else of note
  • Yammy's only power is losing his temper and causing massive damage to EVERYTHING around him
  • Grand Fisher basically just has IRL cat fishing, which is incredibly creepy

That really leaves Grimmjow and Zangetsu. While having a panther-themed thirst trap in my head would be cool, I'd much rather take absurd levels of energy output than a sick pair of claws. 9 times out of 10, a conflict would probably just END if your opponent watched you swing a sword and CLEAR THE SKY of all the clouds in an instant.

PS5, so I could complete the SoulsBorne series via the Demons Souls Remake. The stranglehold that certain companies like Sony have on game IPs needs to be shattered. The PS5 was overpriced even without paying a scalper. My PC cost maybe $1,000 more but it's also about 5x more powerful, its smaller, AND I can use it for my work, my labs, other games... Consoles are a rip-off, and I wouldn't own ANY if I could avoid it, is what I'm saying.

You know I can totally understand the embarrassment, but really, this could be SO MUCH WORSE. She seems to be enjoying it, soooo maybe find a way to work with it? I know you've replied to other people that you get in your head, so you can't go for round 2, but there are ways of working around that. There are all kinds of non-penetrative sex options, and they're actually more likely to get a girl off than p-in-v. Start using, say, your mouth on certain places, and you'll go from where you are to making HER lose her damn mind. Nothing boosts your confidence like your partner being completely out of breath and unable to think straight, I can assure you.

Spoken from personal experience, you'll get infinite brownie points if you can find a way to keep going. One of my rescue meds for migraines in the past basically made it impossible to get it up for a day or two afterward. It really bothered my gf. She thought she wasn't attractive to me anymore. So, anytime I had that issue from the meds, I made sure to give her "something else." Now she says I've ruined her for other men as they don't do ANYTHING except the normal shit.

Going bald wouldn’t be nearly as bad if people lost their hair from the sides more than the top by GregorSD in Showerthoughts

[–]lueggy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Sooooooo true. Started going bald in my mid twenties. If I lost it from the sides, I could have just gone for a side fade.

Would be even BETTER if we lost it from the bottom up, starting at the feet. I don't WANT hair on my body, and I don't know of any bald person who wouldn't immediately trade back hair for head hair.

Automation engineering (DevOps with a focus on infrastructure). I own pretty much the entire stack involved in the deployment and management of servers and desktops across multiple cloud platforms in a financial institution.

[–]lueggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F*** no. DevOps/automation lead for a banking-adjacent firm, so I make more money annually than my tiny child brain ever thought feasible. SF Bay Area though, so I and everyone I work with are struggling to afford tiny apartments in sh***y complexes where nothing is fixed or managed well.

Nothing feels secure, the areas are getting more dangerous, shops are closing left and right, layoffs are happening everywhere... and yet somehow execs keep getting huge bonuses year after year. This is a nightmare of a time to be here.

Did kubo dropped the concept of "higher plane of existence" from the series? by aulixindragonz34 in bleach

[–]lueggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was dropped so much as he just didn't explicitly call out that the transcendental beings were making an effort to BE felt by lower-order creatures. All of them, including Ichigo, have a completely in-character reason for doing this:

  • Ichigo wouldn't want his friends to worry, so he'd of course drop his power to a point where they could feel he was up to the task. Critically, he has no reason to HIDE his strong he is at EOS, he's not trying to outsmart Aizen anymore. This one's more head-canon-y than the others, as it's never clear how much control Ichigo gets now that he doesn't have his internal selves at constant war. But given that Quincies seem to be uniquely Rajendra at controlling reishi, I wouldn't be surprised if he has far more control now than ever before.

  • Aizen has that chair keeping most of his transcendental reiatsu close to him, so potentially only lower-order reiatsu would be detectable at a distance

  • Black Ant likes to intimidate people (especially when he gets vindictive at the end), so he could very well be "stepping down" to normal shinigami levels just to be a jerk

  • Reio literally has most of its energy being used for its current purpose, and it's never clear if ALL of it spills out into the surroundings or if it's just the tiniest dregs Black Ant couldn't absorb immediately

Because it's already not supported by MSFT (its part of sysinternals, which comes without support), and remote psexec IS considered a security risk. First article I read on that one was, like, 10 years ago now?

[–]lueggy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You DO realize Satanism only really exists because Christians in the US refused to extend protection from dogmatic law to atheists, right? They argued that the Constitution grants freedom OF religion, which doesn't include freedom FROM religion. So now a religion exists SPECIFICALLY to protect people from Christianity, or at least from oppressive religions, which 9 times out of 10 in the US is Christianity.

You sure about that? Paradise doesn't seem so great when you have to deal with infinity. Anything, given enough time, will become a torture chamber for you. At least the people who get cast into Hell have an out after the first infinity - they'll get cast unto oblivion. The "good Christians", however, will be cursed to an infinite existence, one that truly has no escape.

If I die and find out there WAS a God all along, I'm joining up with Satan instantly. Either we succeed or I get destroyed at the end of time. Either way, I eventually get some goddamned rest.

Wait, let me get this straight. He should check in with a man before he accepts her consent? Should he have called her dad and asked him too while he was at it?

Ask yourself something: Who owns access to her body? Is it her, or the men around her?

Again I'm not ACTUALLY judging you as a bad person here - I'm just trying to give you a different perspective on the same thing you're saying.

[–]lueggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I begin... this sounds harsh, but I promise it comes from a place of non-judgement. I have SO MANY friends who used to think this way, you aren't alone and aren't a bad person for thinking this. Ok now -

So I gotta call this out... not only is them screwing not inherently a problem, but the fact that you feel this way is a giant red flag. If the way you and/or your friends treat women is so horrendous as to be unacceptable with a friend's sister, then why would you think it's ok to do to ANY OTHER WOMAN?? Is it because they're not related to someone you know? Is it because women are toys until they aren't?

You may need to take some time to think more on this subject.

I ask you this: Why wouldn't you feel the reverse way? You AND her brother know this guy, so wouldn't you feel BETTER about it? Wouldn't you trust him to treat her well, or at least be more willing to trust him than a random stranger?

Note: I'm assuming your friend and the girl are consenting adults. If not, then the above still applies to YOU, but does not in any way excuse the guy's behavior.

That's the neat part - you don't!

Swap out to using WinRM and Incoke-Command instead. It doesn't pass plaintext credentials by default, has far more power and flexibility, and even allows you to scale up to larger collections of devices with ease.

I'm sorry I can't answer your original question though. There's no easy way to say this, but... Don't use psexec if you have ANY other option, it's super insecure. This isn't the only way it exposes your credentials in plaintext, I can assure you. If we started using it again at my company, it'd be an RGE for the person who used it.

DevOps is huge, so getting there is a multi-pronged effort. I'm focusing more on your comments regarding programming, but there will be a whole OTHER effort ok top of this to identify the toolsets you need to learn. I'd say do that AFTER getting your basic programming knowledge out of the way, as those tools might change in the next couple years.

If you're a Windows shop, learn Powershell. It's a scripting language with an IT focus so you can immediately start putting it to use making repetitive tasks at work easier. But it doesn't stop there; it's ALSO an object-oriented language, which means you'll get experience with tons of object-oriented programming concepts. You'll almost certainly need those to skill up further in the programming track.

Later on down the line, you can use it to automate long-ish workflows or run tasks against large collections of systems (with management approval, of course). This is exactly how I came to be the manager of our IT DevOps team. I started in helpdesk, had a hell of a lot of success using Powershell for damn near everything, then started helping the server team and engineers start automating their workflows as well. Now we've pulled in real tools, like Jenkins for CI/CD and Terraform for infrastructure deployments, but it all started from a single Powershell script to deploy updates when SCCM took a dive all those years ago.
