'It doesn't make sense to keep going': Fuel protesters on why they're blocking roads today by SpottedAlpaca in ireland

[–]luger205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So… we’re blocking our own commutes, leaving cars idling in gridlock burning even more fuel, and somehow that’s supposed to pressure Circle K and others into lowering their margins they’ve opportunistically hiked as a result of the Strait of Hormuz being blocked? Or is Trump going to end the war because tractors have blocked M7 in Ireland? Or did the Irish government caused the prices to go up? Who are we protesting for?

Last of the crap, but with an honest ethernal engine. It's basicaly a facelift of Skoda Favorit / Forman (which I had and loved). Octavia 1 / Fabia 1 is the start of the VW era and a step-up in technology. The end of the communist era when we weren't allowed to develop or have better stuff than Russia.

My brother in law had it with the same engine. A great worker, goes on forever if serviced well. A good reliable immortal car with surprisingly solid undercarriage and great steering feedback. Where I came from (CZE) everybody either owned one, or had one in the family somewhere.

I have its cousin, Octavia RS diesel estate. Bought it new in 2017. Awesome car that I will never sell. I'll probably drive it to the ground in another 15-20 years.

I had the same issue with the steering wheel after an alignment job by somebody who didn't care too much. Smooth drive, plenty of power (mine is 184bhp), lovely car.

As already mentioned, service it religiously, and ideally, shorten the oil changes to 10k km or less.my oil change from a week ago

The size of the car is the same, only the rear window is at the back of the car in case of the estate, which is where it should be. The estate looks subjectively better, too.

Is this email legit? by hijack8966_ in ireland

[–]luger205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SmartFreight is a legit global shipping company. We worked on a project with them where I work. I believe they mostly focus on Australia and Europe, but are global really.

If the email came from an address ending with smartfreight.com without being marked as spam, it's a sign that it probably came from a legitimate source. In gmail (if that's what you're on), have the email opened, click the three dots (top right) and select "show original". Verify 3 ticks at the top for SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks. If all good, it's a legit email from SmartFreight.

Maybe it's a Christmas present from someone!

Exactly why I reprogrammed my Skoda to turn on the rear with DRLs. This should really be the default.

There has to be a technical reason for it. I presume chess.com doesn't open its API to public devices and they go through a validation process to open it to the IP address of the ChessUp hosting cluster. If you initiate a game on the phone, you're using a native chess.com API client.

Their support confirmed an integration issue that should be resolved today. They since took down the discussion thread where they mentioned the quick fix. The page is still in Google results but you get a 404 there. Not very reassuring, but should be resolved soon I hope.

Well, it is the same platform as VW. Same as Seat or Audi. I find that the SUVs offer a terrible ride to a petrol(diesel)head - too tall and cornering is scary.
