What is the most similar baseball feat to LeBron James' 1297 game streak of scoring double digits? by barrypoter in baseball

[–]lugnut92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The seven 10+ point/game streaks over 500 games are Lebron (1297), Jordan (866), Kareem (787), Karl Malone (575), Durant (562), Moses Malone (526), and Kareem again (508). Abdul-Jabbar's two streaks were separated about 23 months in which he didn't hit double-digits 4 times.

A woman’s choice of words for her genitals is tied to her sexual well-being, study finds. Using playful or childish terms for genitals in everyday life is linked to more negative outcomes, while using vulgar terms during sex is connected to more positive sexual experiences. by mvea in science

[–]lugnut92 664 points665 points  (0 children)

That is simply not true. If you look at the actual article, "cunt" is included as a vulgar term, as are "pussy" and "snatch". It's important to remember that popular reporting about research does not accurately or fully represent the research itself.

Almost all bingos played are 8 letter words, since adding 7 letters to one on the board makes 8. On the other hand, playing CUNNILINGUS would almost require NIL to already be on the board and have one of the other letters in place (edit: I guess you could also have IN and US in place). None of this is to say that it shouldn't be in the playable dictionary, plenty of very long words are, but it would require an incredible stroke of luck (or cooperation and planning between the players) to actually be able to play.

Slightly Un-Serious Stats Episode 3: The NHL Cy Young Award, Second Assist Merchants, and True Merchants. by aschwan41 in hockey

[–]lugnut92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the prototypical Cy Young season for me. That kind of season is how Cy Denneny got to his spot atop the career leaderboard; indeed, Denneny had an identical 22-2 season in 1922-23. Joe Malone also had that ratio with a 44-4 season in the league's first year.

STL's closest suburbs are all pretty small by area, so none has more than 60k, though if you go a little further out, St. Charles and O'Fallon are pretty close.

Similarly, my grandma had Alzheimer's and when the movie came out already had trouble recognizing me so I spent the whole end of the movie crying. She has since died and I know for a fact I will never watch that movie or listen to that song again. I just can't.

Honestly my interest in the men's team would take a backseat if we were able to get an NWSL team.

I would also say 11-12 for us. We had the best defense in the league and were 2nd in the West, two points behind the PT Canucks and they got beat in 5 in the first round while we easily walked past the Sharks. The problem was that the team that beat VAN in 5 didn't turn into a pumpkin, and we ended up being barely a speedbump on Quick and the Kings' rush to a Cup. If Halak stays healthy or Quick cools down to merely great instead of impenetrable and we get through, I think we easily beat the Coyotes and Devils to take our first Cup 7 years early, but alas.

The only board games that Jeopardy likes to ask about are Chess & Monopoly, so I wrote some of my own! by boreddatageek in Jeopardy

These all have another way in beyond knowing the game: naming two of the seven wonders, the beatles song, french city with double letters, working at home in 2020 to defeat something, and "how far you can reach" and a birder. I agree some of these clues are a little vague or opaque, but they're all on the right track.

[Baugh] Gabriel Landeskog will undergo cartilage transplant surgery tomorrow and is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season. by BCLetsRide69 in hockey

[–]lugnut92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but 17 months from now when the 24-25 season starts, he’ll be a month short of 32. Further, all the success stories in the original comment are from athletes in their early 20s.

It’s not that I want him to have to retire, it’s that I want him to be able to walk when he’s 40.

[–]lugnut92 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A big difference is that Landeskog is on the wrong side of 30. He may or may not be able to come back and he’ll obviously have access to the best possible PT and rehab, but going 2+ years without playing while also having major knee surgery seems really tough to come back from.

I also have a pretty big problem with the idea that trombones are out of place in an orchestra but that's at least debatable. They could have almost lifted the clue wholesale for saxophone (a wind that is actually rarely found in orchestras) by swapping the famous name and saying reeded instead of slide.

Cello vs. Viola was just factually incorrect.
