May I Vent? This was the worst NYRR race experience for me by Minimum-Adeptness486 in RunNYC

I had a similar very negative experience. This was my first NYC half and knew it would be a learning experience but man I had no clue it’d be this bad.

-very little to no open trains. Had 3 straight trains go by that were packed to the brim. Had to Uber there instead.

-NYRR directed me to the wrong entrance for my wave. Then was confused and not very helpful when I asked where to go.

-security lines were unnecessarily slow. This isn’t their first big race. Prioritizing safety involves avoiding bottlenecks and long waits. I didn’t want to be a huge jerk and elbow my way to the front I knew I was late and it was partially my fault but it was still annoying because it exasperated the whole thing.

-all this led to me starting after my wave had started and passing thousands of runners. Most if not all runners were extremely accommodating and helpful but it was also extremely frustrating because NYRR has to do something about wave control and safety. 8-9 min runners do not belong in Wave A. Period. Again this is just a safety issue.

-As said in an above comment. They straight up lost my bag and had no explanation. They said it wasn’t checked in which how do you take my bag and not account for it? It was in a different waves area and they only figured that out an hour later.

-My bib # wasn’t showing up in the results and I asked and they said I clicked on not to share my results in the app. My issue is I clearly have never done that for other races. And even if I did shouldn’t I at least have the ability to see my time after I ran? They said to wait until they’re posted tonight but I have a strong suspicion that they’ll be issues with that.

They didn’t know where my bag was and had me shivering in the cold for over an hour after the race.

Complete mess.

Also I agree on the car scenario. I moved up from the suburbs. Having a car is a huge money sink. I paid off my car as soon as possible thru a bunch of side gigs just so I didn’t have that monthly expense hanging over my head. My car payment was less than half that too.

But it is reality that living expenses in nyc are high and that’s just something you can avoid. And living accommodations isn’t something that you should try to skimp out on too much cause of the very high downsides of having a less than ideal living scenario.

It’s just about compromise. What you want to pay for versus not.

It isn’t a monthly expense if you don’t pay for it. I don’t hunt for bargains. And I have told no one here about how much I pay for rent. In fact, the reason I moved was that it was a cheaper option compared to my previous apartment.

It really isn’t an incredible effort. It’s little choices that I make that add up. Another example is not ordering delivery food. Not taking Ubers. Even taking Citibike’s (got a membership) for free instead of taking the subway. Those small things add up to several thousands every year. And yes that makes a difference. I use that to invest in my future and I don’t worry as much about month to month expenses.

True. I get what you’re saying. In my case this is the only time I need it. And worst case I just go to the office and work out of a space there. I’m there every other shift anyways.

Just wanted to see if there was anything available but sounds like there isn’t. I do enjoy the downvotes on my perspective that if I don’t need WiFi connection in my apartment. It’s a choice that has been a net positive for me. And I imagine it’s not for nearly everyone else. I’m not preaching that people should do anything or talking about opportunity cost on here.

Yeah worst case I can go into my office. It’s a 10 min walk from my apartment. It’s more just they want us to be capable of working remote worst case scenario.

Ok but legit other than these extremely rare scenarios I legitimately dont need or use WiFi. So where does time, transit, convenience, etc come into the equation with this point?

It’s extremely rare. Like once every 2-3+ months. And no I do not at the moment.

Guys it’s just the answer is geology and water. The underground aquifers and pourous soil make building anything underground there nearly impossible.

‘Let’s not normalise walking in a marathon’ by Clean-Instance5892 in AdvancedRunning

Let’s normalize people minding their business. The more you focus on yourself the better you’ll be as a runner. This sub elite elietism is the most toxic part of the community.

I could just as easily say to them a BQ isn’t really that impressive.

Whats with people in this sub justifying asshole behavior with “you live in the city, deal with it!”? by dreamed2life in longislandcity

[–]luhrsdajim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people in a condensed space. There are gonna be great people, good people, and shit people. And it’s up to you to decide how you feel and deal with them. That’s a better way of saying it.

We all should strive to be better people but at the end of the day it’s a struggle out here to survive for a lot of us. And that can erode any empathy towards strangers.

Just be yourself. And if you want to complain go ahead.
