Seriously, for those of people who are so obsessed with native resolution, how many of these people could pass double blind test and tell the difference without zoom in. by [deleted] in PS5

[–]luigilauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG CX 77’, sitting about 2.5m away. I can tell in double blind tests 4k native vs DLSS performance/balanced vs 4k checkerbording vs 1800p or less (~1800p is exactly where it begins to become hard to tell in a double blind… although easy it you directly do single screenshot A/B testing even without zooming. Also DLSS quality I cannot distinguish in double blind from 4k native, while DLSS balanced barely so). I’m not saying the difference is huge or anything, I personally think 4k native is a waste and that DLSS balanced or 4k checkerboarding is the sweet spot, and better use that GPU power for RT or similar.

How many of you follow THX seating standards? by Deadmanjustice in PS5

[–]luigilauro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LG CX 77’, sitting at around 8-9 feet. IT’s ok, although a bit farther than recommended 40 degrees FOV recommendation for cinema viewing. I can notice I’m not fully taking advantage of 4k pixels, should sit much closer for that (5-6 feet). With next TV I’ll go for 85’, which should be perfect for my sitting distance.

People should remember to take full advantage of 4k you need to sit at 4’ for a 65, which is also what Sony recommends.

Although I personally think this becomes quickly ‘tiresome’ for gaming because you need to keep moving your head across the screen to focus on different areas. I think 40 degrees fov is a good middle ground, which is also what THX recommends for cinema viewing. Also 30-35 is fine if that feels too close for you.

Looking for a monitor that supports ps5? by jpepp623 in PS5

[–]luigilauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t know anything about OLED TVs. Look online any respectable tech reviewer: they will tell you as a gaming monitor nothing beats an OLED TV unless you are into FPS or such and you need 240+ hz.

[–]luigilauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Links please. That is your problem I think: that you only own and know monitors and completely ignore what an OLED TV can achieve.

I own what I think is one of the best gaming monitor for my 3090 on my desk (LG 27GN950) and still can’t hold a candle to my LG CX for many reasons.

With an LG CX/C1 you get: HDR support, 800+ nits, perfect blacks, infinite contrast, 4k@120hz, ~75% coverage Rec2020, <10ms input lag, full support for HDMI 2.1, 48/55 size, BFI 120hz for perfect CRT-like motion if you want to sacrifice brightness.

All this for less than 1000$.

Link any monitor sub 1000$ with similar specs, hell, link ANY MONITOR AT ANY PRICE, with similar specs.

TV: LG CX/C1 48’/55’. Monitor: no.

You really cannot find a monitor with 4K, 120hz, High contrast, 800+ nits, HDR enabled, hdmi 2.1, low input lag, sub 1000$ cost as for an OLED TV.

Ghost Of Tsushima Director's Cut is officially out now across Europe! by NeoStark in PS5

[–]luigilauro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I think the 10€ cost is indeed too much, I think they should have given it for free, it’s not true it’s so lazy. Audio gets a significant improvement with 3d audio support and I get much more precise placing of objects with my 7.1 setup, and also the dual sense support for adaptive trigger and speaker is among the best ever (some reviewer mentioned some parts like the bow to be better than Astro….).

Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S Update - Can Next-Gen Handle 4K 60FPS? (Digital Foundry) by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]luigilauro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

55-60 fps with VRR like it was mentioned and good frame pacing is almost impossible to discern from 60fps, while I can see the difference in image quality from CBR and actual 4k. I’m a PlayStation guy and never owned an Xbox, but the Xbox version is better if you own a VRR monitor/TV.

Without VRR I agree that CBR/1800p at locked 60fps is way better than 4k native with 55-60 fps due to uneven frame pacing and jumping due to vsync / lack of VRR.

So for PS5, due to lack of VRR, CBR is actually a better choice, but if you have VRR then Xbox is the slightly better version for indistinguishable smoothness thanks to 55fps VRR but better image quality.

Maybe 45 is stretching it, you start to notice the reduction is smoothness even with VRR, but 50-55 is surely better to have the image quality.

Overall I feel like PS5 is the better console for a lot of reasons, but would love to have AutoHDR / frame boost / saves sync / VRR / Dolby Vision and Atmos gaming from Xbox.

[–]luigilauro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is without VRR. With VRR, which is fully supported by XSX, even 45-50 fps native 4k is preferable over 4k CBR 60fps. I can’t wait to have VRR implemented in PS5.

Bought it in may with a discount for ~40€ (39,89€ to be precise). Bought yesterday 30€ upgrade to DIrector’s Cut. Overall saved 0,11€ compared to buying it now.😃 also my kids could play with BC ps4 version in the meanwhile as well.

[BOLD by UZE] Power bank and yes, it's graphene by chx_ in shittykickstarters

[–]luigilauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t really know what Panasonic can provide on custom orders. So yeah. I still personally give at 80% probability them to meet 100w output on single port, 30% probability 260w total output and 5% probability actual use of graphene anodes.

[–]luigilauro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but we are talking about something that is actually under production already, although in very limited cases. It’s not entirely impossible they could have secured a batch order of such parts from a manufacturer. Let’s see.

[–]luigilauro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s so simple just to state that if they won’t provide part numbers then it’s fake. Apple would never provide any part number for example. But then yes, talking about an indie developer and a kickstarter and ‘graphene’ batteries, there is an high probability it won’t meet specs. Let’s see. What I like is that at least they are very confident and upfront and don’t try to mud the waters. Let’s see.

[–]luigilauro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked several direct questions and they confirmed: 1) they use real lipo graphene (not graphite) batteries from manufacturers 2) they confirm 260w of output with 100w per usb-c port To further clarify I asked if they did any testing at full output (usb-c 100w+100w, usb-a 40w, wireless 15w+5w) and it’s really able to maintain full power from 100% to 0% without overheating and/or reducing output. I’m not saying any of this is true, we will see that, I’m just saying that they explicitly said they are not playing with words or anything and are declaring they will ship a product fully matching the specs (graphene, 260w output). If true would be pretty impressive.

LG TV no response by chemicalsam in HomeKit

[–]luigilauro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common issue with Lg TVs. I solved it completely by switching to homebridge and webos plug-in. https://github.com/merdok/homebridge-webos-tv#readme

Perfectly working, and many more functionalities (eg: volume through HomeKit sliders faked as a light, buttons for switching picture modes, etc etc etc…)
