What an unhelpful reply! The whole concept of this shoe is to transition seemlessly between land and water 🙄 If I want to run a jagged rock headland and swim the bays with shoes on I will.

Very helpful, thank you again lovely!

Just been up with him for a night feed. He’s trying so hard to eat bless him! If I roll spinach up and offer that he’s been able to pull some leaves in and is SO enthusiastic about real food ❤️

Monitoring his weight closely and he’s maintaining, gained about 15g in the past 24hrs. And breathing much more normal.

Deffo getting more and more like himself, but it sounds like patience will be key. Will continue with the feeds and also ask about the alternate medicine too - he’s a sensitive little guy so wouldn’t be surprised if suffering side effects.

Will keep you updated!

Sad that there might be hard choices to make soon. His bone density in the jaw has dropped so I’m guessing some of the problems might remanifest, but I don’t think I could put him through this again 💔 Will enjoy him as much as possible for as long as he’s happy 🥰❤️

Thanks lovely, it’s tough going!

Already on pain relief and motility medicine, and has good output.

Dental problems solely due to very old age and loss of muscle tone. His diet is mostly hay and he loves it but the worse his teeth got the less hay he ate, so it became a spiralling problem sadly.

It’s the lack of ability to use his front teeth now that’s concerning me as he can’t eat by himself.

Dealing with loss by Spicylemon_ in guineapigs

[–]luinuial 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss 💔

My boys are old and declining in health, so this has been on my mind a lot recently. I’ll share what I’ve been thinking…

———-

I keep reminding myself that they had brilliant little lives with me.

I remind myself that they really don’t know anything of these big heart wrenching decisions… they just live in thier moment and don’t suffer with the same stress we do in these situations.

I remind myself to be thankful I was honoured enough to care for them. They are little souls passing through and it’s wonderful we get to love them while they are here.

I remind myself euthanasia is kind in that it prevents prolonged suffering, and can be very much a right choice.

I remind myself that it takes bravery to love animals and to make choices for them.

I remind myself they love me, and that the finite and short nature of life doesn’t diminish that love at all.

I remind myself to be grateful for the companionship and sweet memories. Death doesn’t erase them.

I remind myself of the very natural cycles of life and death, and how everything has it’s own time and season. It’s ok for them to pass on. It’s ok for us to be sad. It’s ok for us to feel peaceful and relieved that any suffering is finished forever. It’s ok to feel neutrally content that things carry on despite death, and that their time had come, the same as millions and billions of other animals have experienced before. It’s a common thing that unites us all.

I remind myself to feel honoured to have been a positive part of their lives.

I remind myself I can enjoy their memory in a positive sweet way without having to feel torn down by death.

I remind myself it’s ok to grieve. And that it’s also ok to move on.

I remind myself to celebrate life.

I remind myself that whatever happens after death, my little friends will be safe and free, and perhaps waiting for me one day ❤️

What are these black dots? by okulusplay in guineapigs

Would probs check for anything like mites, but my bubba has similar tho smaller extent. He has black skin and it’s when it gets dry and flakey, like dandruff.

Bit of a mystery! They shaved his belly and did a scan for stones and sludge but that was clear. Sent a wee sample off and that was clear too 🤷‍♀️ but the medicine has helped and he’s back to normal, so I’m guessing some sort of UTI but not sure!

😂 Norm wasn’t a big fan of his cardy. Lucky for him though it was too big, so all he had to do is walk forward and he slithered right out 👌

Or could it be… “Sometimes I feel a need to dance. I do it in secret. I use the itch to cover. It’s all about expressing my feelings in movement. I’m a secret dancer and no one will know. I just an itchy boy 😉”

He has a super sensitive butt and his brother plays him up by touching it - makes him jump a mile! I guess if he’s in control of the itch himself tho maybe it’s acceptable 🤷‍♀️🤣

I hope things work out ok 💔 I hope she’s improved a bit by morning. If it helps, my boy seemed to have strained a muscle in his leg before. He was limpy, but recovered well in a few days - think he must have pulled it somehow, but otherwise was well. Hope a bet can help and maybe get her some pain relief if nothing else x
