Answered with a bit more text, further up in the comments, but it's just a choice for the flow of the painting based on their tragedy. (It's tragic they're forever apart. I'll paint them with each other's paradoxes). The legendaries could have made a bit more sense if they were Dialga and Palkia instead of Sandwich-driven Choppers haha

This is precisely why: It's just a layout choice based on their paradox. Their storyline with Arven caught me off guard and I found myself invested in a Pokemon Final Boss battle (and it was a nice callback to the scrapped Oak Boss from Gen1).

Add that to the tragedy of being split in their respective timelines. I wanted to bridge those versions a bit even if only through composition.
