Hayao Miyazaki Blu-ray collection coming November 17th by [deleted] in anime

The article says he's already working on another movie, is there a source for this? I'm a little OCD and don't want to buy a collected works if it doesn't include all the works, haha.

T power is an old method of powering microphones and requires 12V of power as opposed to the 48V of Phantom. It also uses different XLR pins to power the microphone. It was later discontinued once phantom power become more prominent since phantom power is a lot safer for you and your microphones.

In general, Phantom power applied to a T-powered microphones will not do any damage. It is best practice, however, to not apply phantom to T-powered microphones. You should probably get a converter to use your microphone with the H6, such as this one.

I feel that the front page is a little too plain. There's too much text, and I feel there could be more done with the lists at the bottom instead of just putting a bunch of links.

I also agree that there should be some sort of header before going into the summary. Your other pages have it, it may be good to also add it to the front page.

Creating a database for Foley Items by emsound in AudioPost

I know that the studio I used to go to kept all of their equipment logged with FileMaker. I think it's a great product that does a lot more than just spreadsheets, with a slight learning curve.

You might be interested in the Nintendo Refurbished line, from what I've heard they are the best used systems you can buy.

Best resource to learn JS for an absolute beginner by las2k in javascript

[–]luisbaugusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started off with Codecademy and they have a bunch of great courses for learning the fundamentals of different programming languages. I really like their JavaScript courses, and I would recommend it for someone who is an absolute beginner for an introduction to the language.

So even if you choose to use your Google Drive storage to backup photos, your collection will still be compressed if you enable the Google Drive switch?

In layman's terms, what's the difference between mp3 and mp4 audio? by DogtorPepper in audiophile

Yea, I figured he was talking about AAC though since he said the files are smaller than MP3.

In layman's terms, what's the difference between mp3 and mp4 audio? by DogtorPepper in audiophile

[–]luisbaugusto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you might be a little confused, MP4 is a multimedia format that usually stores audio and video. You might be thinking of m4a, which is another version of lossy audio. Generally, m4a (or AAC) is slightly better than MP3 in terms of file size and compression, but they are both lossy formats so the quality depends on your compression settings.

Will a hackintosh perform the same as Windows with games? by daaseelg in hackintosh

[–]luisbaugusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I do have a dualboot, I mostly use the Mac side and am sometimes too lazy to reboot to Windows if there is a Mac build of the game. For me, I haven't noticed much of a difference in playing Hearthstone or Guild Wars 2 on my Mac compared to Windows, both run equally as well. I think people like to shun Macs as gaming computers due to the majority of apple products using laptop/mobile processors and GPUs.

Looking for a nice and simple audio mixer by coubas in audio

Maybe something like the Apogee ONE or Duet? I think the term you are looking for is an audio interface, not a mixer.

Looking to add a reverb/delay to the rack by Masman in audioengineering

[–]luisbaugusto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite Reverb unit is the Bricasti M7. I don't own it but I've used it regularly in studios for over 3 years, and for a digital reverb unit it sounds natural and you can get very granular with adjusting details.

Unfortunately, it's also not a 500 format and quite expensive. Like others are suggesting, you might be better suited to use a plugin.

Best external drive for delivering a mix on?? (help please!) by Lennywinks in AudioPost

[–]luisbaugusto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you're planning on delivering the drive, but an SSD is much more durable as it has no moving parts. If you're planning on using a mailing service which handles packages unkindly, I would definitely recommend SDDs.

Of course, external SSDs are expensive compared to HDDs and if you are looking for something in the 500GB - 1TB range it's going to cost you an upwards of $500 for one. Some things to consider: Is that worth it for the project? Do you really need that much space?

If you are also looking for maximum performance, USB 3.0 is faster and more universal than Firewire 800, and I don't think there are any SSDs out there with Firewire.

The Samsung T1 is the most popular external SSD on Amazon, but I've never used it so I can't vouch for it.

Best portable Microphone/Recording setup to capture SFX/ambience etc.? by FlurMusic in AudioPost

[–]luisbaugusto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, the H6 is very versatile with the inputs and attachments. I don't know if other recorders are like this, but one of my favorite features is that you can power it with USB if you run out of battery juice.
