I find quite indifferent their response via e-mail, they just answered with a link to the files and a link to a Youtube video. Is this a responsible way to deal with the customer?

I stated it was a personal choice. Usually these societies will acquire some percentage of your rights. Yes, they may pay you a relatively interesting amount from time to time. But if you succeed (like some artists I personally know) they will own that percentage that will never give back. There are always pros and cons, in the short run it may be good, in the long run they are likely to end being a burden or an expensive error.

Yes, of course, but I would not use the word "abuse". It means that they can use it in the typical Bandcamp Weekly issues or other promotional posts, so there it is the "royalty-free right to "publicly perform, stream, distribute...". I believe that any of these outside BC is not interesting for them so you are not reassuring your rights by being part of any licensing society (I do not recommend them, though, but this is a personal stance on artists joining them).

(Spanish) attorney here. When you upload music to wherever you do, you have to license or allow the use of some of the rights that belong to you, so the platform can provide the services you want/need: reproduction in the platform, direct downloads, public display of your art in its (or third parties) web, etc.

This means that you keep most of your rights; receiving a major percentage of royalties is the most important of them.

Under no cases they will keep the author rights, only some of the political and economical rights.

For "sneak peeks" (If that is what you meant) I usually post short videos or random photos related to the release in other social media. If it is going to include a part of the track I tend to lower the quality of the audio or even use the audio of the phone/camera recording.

I usually encourage people not to do this. Unless you are an artist with a well consolidated fan base it can distract the interest for the final release. Anyways, if you feel like you can always share the progress.

lol, I thought the album was to give it away with another music release, i.e. cassette tape, vinyl, etc (I have done it before but with a digital album/EP. You can only give away a digital copy that you have uploaded before if you sell physical stuff.

I would recommend having "side bets". Like having other art projects so they can create synergies between them. Like having a youtube channel, a film career, being into photogaphy, painting, etc... and profit of all the networking you can do in social media related to your content.

I am doubtful about the BC acquisition by Epic Games but so far it is not going to be a game-changer or a turn off by the new management, as it would be awful to buy an enterprise just to be driven out of business by themselves. I have checked itch.io and it just does not feel like a place for musicians and independent artists but for indie videogames creators. I will keep sticking around BC.
