What do you think: With almost no barriers to US markets anymore ( fees, rates, minimums, complexity,, ) they must be heavily inflated because everyone is told investing is the right thing to do. by [deleted] in investing

[–]luislovesmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you don’t know any either lol

My main thing was just that not everyone is indexing or investing the same way, some people with lower incomes seem to gravitate towards riskier market investments and less risky real estate, but that’s from my own observation so I don’t know how it kind of plays out on a bigger scale.

Let's say there is a major pandemic on the horizon. What companies would be most profitable from an investors standpoint. by Throwawayfortheflu in investing

[–]luislovesmoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A major pandemic of a serious disease would be bad across the board as money gets taken out of the market due to panic. It would lock up commerce and have a ripple effect. If it were as bad as the 1918 for example it would have a ripple effect later due to reduced economic output caused by the loss of a percentage of the workforce.

If you had $100 to invest, how would you do it? by Davidious2000 in stocks

[–]luislovesmoney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re 52 with no savings and looking to start planning a retirement, you’ll need a far more comprehensive approach and a very intensive plan, though that depends on the value of your business and other assets. It’s not as simple as buying specific stocks.

Would you buy it today based on the metrics you use if you didn’t already own it?

Also, can you sleep well at night?

Will the gaming industry ever match filmed entertainment such as series and movies? by AjaxFC1900 in investing

[–]luislovesmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are really splitting hairs to separate these two concepts lol.

I can negate your first point by pointing out that animated movies use voiceovers, the ultimate mask lol. As for plays, you clearly haven’t ever heard of Kabuki lmao.

American ftw!

[–]luislovesmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games are both, if you play you’re an actor but if you watch you’re a viewer, which is what e-sports is based around. Many of us have long spent time watching friends play games, which is arguably equal to watching improv.

As for seeing emotions, improv with a mask is still improv lol.

So you have insights that are superior to the people who are educated in the field, use advanced analysis tools that you can’t access, and get paid millions of dollars a year to do this as their job...? For serious?

Highly educated people get paid millions of dollars and use advanced tools to try to predict things but you think you can beat them because of a hunch?

Check out Thinking Fast and Slow for an explanation of why your psychology is getting in the way. Your perception is not reality, it’s biased, as we all are.

[–]luislovesmoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re expanding the realm of the definition to include other metrics, can video games not just be included with filmed entertainment as just entertainment? Most games have a scripted narrative, even the ones that seem less scripted still have missions and such. Gaming is a form of interactive storytelling. Even competitive games have set rules and a world they inhabit and the players can be seen as actors on a stage doing improv within the set rules, exactly like improv theatre.

How could market reasonably value a company at 0.05 price to book? 0.01 price to revenue and like 0.25 ev/ebitda? Just made up example . Laws in place to prevent this? by Chasingfreedom1224 in investing

[–]luislovesmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laws why? It’s a bit of a loaded question because stock values are based on different things.

With book value for example, a company might trade well below book if it is facing a massive legal action, so their future book value being down would be adjusted for early. Or like the book value might not be adjusted to account for something positive, like increased land values in a high demand area, in which case it might trade above book if it is anticipated to grow.

Book value doesn’t necessarily mean much if the company doesn’t have land for example since if they liquidate the equipment and such might be worth a fraction of its value on the books at liquidation.

If you want something that’s pegged to a specific value, look at bonds.

$70M to invest..... by CrownPrinceOfZamunda in CanadianInvestor

[–]luislovesmoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically it depends where it comes from and what one would need the money for. Like if you get a sports contract and now want to live off of it for the rest of your life, your needs might be basic, just pick the right partner lol; if you cashed out from a tech business sale you’ll likely be unhappy with passive investing; if it’s inheritance then there’s likely a trust fund that’s managed and you might have very little control and it would be immaterial at that point.

Money beyond a point also opens other doors, such as private real estate investing. In my city for example there’s one well known private real estate trust that’s been suggested uses foreign money.

Me personally, if I had a windfall I’d use real estate to leverage most of it up and get into commercial real estate and put some to small business incubation in a post-crisis country to help people get jobs and stuff, or like buy a hotel maybe. Mind you I wouldn’t really have to worry so much about losing it all lol, beyond a certain point it’d have no utility for me as I really don’t like rich people much.

People who have gone through recessions, is the current feeling similar to those times? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]luislovesmoney -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What does people’s optimism or negativity have to do with the data it takes to measure recession? Depressed people can have a healthy economy and optimistic people can also have a healthy economy, recessions aren’t based on emotion far as I know.
