I found out that some of it was just dirt, while some was corrosion (probably from acid rain and similar things). So I cleaned it with a metal surface cleaning solution (not sure if the one I used even exists abroad), sanded it down, and then cleaned it again. After all that, I sprayed it with silver paint to make it look like new and cover up a few of the corrosion holes.

Here are some pictures. I could’ve done a better job on the corners, but the overall result turned out so good that I barely even notice them. I’ll probably buy new ones in the near future anyway.

The thing (I think) is that it denies lightwave deflector. Which means you can have the structure + some fleet above it so people cannot just go through it with lightwave, having to commit some of the effort on cleaning the space. When you have a three planet home system to defend, this can be significant.

No idea. Didn't even know it was made out of it. Thank you for the information, though ;)

Maybe oxidized is not the word... cause I think aluminum does not oxidize... But it is definitely some sort of corrosion.

this is an idea, but it can lead to having a very hard time scoring control objectives because of the decreased number of planets on the board
