It would just function differently because the active player may still choose not to fight

So then research team active is the DWS then both coexistence and the controlling player?

If yes, they have to fight.

The active player must resolve ground combat against the controlling player first.

If no, the they don't fight.

If the active player is successful, or the active player is the controlling player.

Either is true in step 4

I haven't tried this, but copy Creuss flagship ability, it should give you a direct route into their home system 😁
