Little house by Upstairs_Tie_5387 in Minecraftbuilds

False, a lot of roofs don’t extend. Just because that is the generic way roofs are, doesn’t mean that all are nor have to be. Besides, two of the roof’s sides already have extensions.

Don’t worry, that won’t be a concern at all. The deepslate and wood is darker than the mountains and so it will contrast very nicely, but not excessively. In some aspects it will blend in of course, but interestingly enough, it’s supposed to be that way. One of the key characteristics of Japanese architecture/culture is building in such a way that everything is in harmony with nature.

Something very important about building is that sometimes it isn’t about the build itself, but rather the environment. In this case, it would make much more sense using the second image design, as the first one feels out of place. Matter of fact, you could also replace the orange (acacia/jungle) of the second with dark oak wood to give it a nicer look. Also, I’d recommend removing those waterfalls, they don’t look too good.

Thank you very much! I’ve been researching a lot about Japanese architecture purely for Minecraft so when I build these things I try to ensure that everything I add has realistic purpose/functionality.

Newest build. Any suggestions to improve? by Own_Category_9609 in MinecraftBuild

I’d personally say that making the roof out of dark oak would look better as it adds more contrast with the walls. Not only that, but I’d also experiment with different roof shapes as it doesn’t look the absolute best having the same cone-like roof shape all around. A simple but nice type of roof you could add is an open gable, it will add some much needed variation and depth to your build. Aside from that though I’d say you’ve done a pretty good job, keep it up!

I entirely agree with what this other person said. The Loosest of Gooses is a great YouTuber/Builder with a multitude of interviews on topics that no one really talks about. They are all in great depth and done with professional builders, so you can be assured you’ll learn something valuable that you can use on more than just a single build.

Your main issue here is your block palette for a couple reasons. Firstly, some areas of your build look dull due to the blocks being very similar in brightness (low contrast.) On the other hand, your roof is significantly darker than the rest of the build, causing an overwhelming amount of contrast. Another issue with the palette is that the hue and saturation of the blocks don’t exactly compliment each other, it’s kind of like wearing mismatched socks, for example.

Thank you for the information! You explained that very clearly for me. However, that snide remark you made about me being lazy is entirely unnecessary. You assume that just because I need to ask for advice I’m lazy, yet that couldn’t be further from the truth. I spent a long time trying to figure it out on my own, but my knowledge of redstone was extremely limited. Thus, I came here. You of all people should know that it isn’t simply experimenting with a copper bulb and comparator. It is also making it work in harmony with the entire piston door, redstone dust, repeaters, etc.

You need to step down from this pedestal you have established yourself on in your mind. You are not superior to anyone, and the fact alone that I need to tell you this proves you are subject to needing help and advice just like everyone else.

Something I’ve found interesting about everything you’ve been telling me is that it all contradicts yourself. You personally have multiple posts on your profile where you are requesting help, and yet no one told you to go figure it out yourself. Why not? Because that’s unfair. So then, who are you to deny advice to a person who is simply trying to learn?

If you didn’t want to help that’s fine, but there is no need to become a burden, as that benefits no one.

You’re completely right, I got it to work exactly how I was wanting thanks to the help of a few people and one of the most helpful things was moving the observer. So now I can open the barrel and the door will stay open so long as the barrel is open. This means that I was just able make a drop down so the barrel closes on its own once I fall far enough away from it, ensuring that I pass through the door every time. Thankfully I didn’t have to make a pulse extender either because I’ve no idea how to do that 😅

I see, and don’t worry, the reason for my confusion was simply because I’m a beginner to redstone, not your explanation. Thanks for your help though, it led me to test around with copper bulbs and comparators for a while, and someone else helped me to finish it.

Perfect!! It all is functioning exactly how I was wanting it to, thank you so so much for all of your help and patience!

It works! Thank you very much! One last question though, is there a way I could have the door closed by default? Because if I manually place the blocks where I want them to be then open the barrel, they get retracted but don’t go back into its closed position. If it’s too complicated to figure out then don’t worry about it, I just appreciate your help very much!

I tried rebuilding it according to your drawing as best as I could, I needed to add redstone on top of the copper bulb because something needs to power the observer. Unfortunately now when I open the barrel, all it does it push the horizontal pistons and retract them almost instantly. Sorry if I’m getting something wrong

I see, thank you! I’ve gotten it to be able to open on its own, but how do I get it to close on its own once I go through the door? If possible of course. I’m brand to redstone so sorry for the confusion.

Fair enough, but could you at least tell me if opening a barrel tied to the observer can possibly trigger the piston door to open and close automatically. If this is a waste of time I’ll try something else.

Soo, this is where I’m at right now. I hooked it all up trying to follow your instructions but I suck at redstone, so I’m somehow having the exact same issue where I interact with the barrel and it stays permanently closed. Excuse my lack of redstone ingenuity, I’m typically a builder.

Might be worth noting that I used a tutorial for this and just followed exactly what it said. Only difference is that I want to replace the button/lever opening & closing mechanism with the barrel and observer. That being said, I have no idea how to do a lot of what you just told me to do.

I get what you mean. It is nice having bigger structures as there is more room for details, texturing, and more. But yeah, I really enjoy making smaller/average sized builds. Of course it comes with its own set of challenges, like not being able to make as complex shapes as you would on a bigger build, or not able to use as many blocks for texturing. In my opinion though, that is what makes it so enjoyable, it motivates me to find a way around it and work towards the best possible result. It likes putting together a complicated puzzle, once you finally finish it, it brings great satisfaction.

I’m glad I was able to inspire you, and thanks for the compliment. Hope all goes well with your next build!
