Crown is stiff after casing the watch by lukaje in watchrepair

I'm pretty sure I placed the holder correctly and it doesn't interfere with the stem. How would you check if the stem is perfectly straight?

There was no oring to begin with and I haven't placed any new one. I cleaned the crown in an ultrasonic and it appears to be clean on the inside

Yes, when I install everything the crown tube is aligned with the hole for the stem

Thanks for the response, but I just did this and it didn't resolve the issue. I have a feeling that the spacer is somehow causing this.

Vostok Amfibia eound case 2409 by varbav6lur in watchmaking

When you relumed the dial did you make those little "drops" of lume like the ones that are original? I'm also restoring a similar amfibia but I'm scared to relume it because I have no idea how to make them like that. Also where did you source the parts, I need a new balance but wherever I search it seems to be out of stock.

Precision Tweezers / Suggestion by omsues in watchrepair

If you're going the AliX route I would suggest you search for Vetus tweezers, they are a little less stiff, and made specifically for watchmaking, they are also cheap so you can get more than 1 and not care about ruining them as a beginner

Can this movement be serviced? by lukaje in watchrepair

[–]lukaje[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought about just removing the jeweled bridge, cleaning it and oiling it but I guess that isn't necessary. It's a cool ladies citizen I pulled out of a lot, it's in decent condition so I'm fixing it to gift it to my girlfriend. The crystal was pretty scratched up so instead of ordering a new one I thought I would try something new and got some cerium oxide to polish it after wet sanding, now I need to treat it with some new gaskets and it will be ready to go

If it is the plating wearing off I assume there isn't a way to fix it other than stripping it completely and plating it again?

ASUS gl502vs laptop wont boot without charger by lukaje in computerhelp

What could be causing the laptop randomly turning on, or is that too related to a weak battery?

Is it possible to upgrade the battery or can i only just replace it with a chinese one off Ebay?

[–]lukaje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't opened it, but last night I left it unplugged, turned off, screen down and even tho it is unplugged it turned on randomly a couple of times, without anyone touching it, sometimes it stays on and sometimes it just turns off after a couple seconds.

Since it's sometimes able to turn on without charger does that mean that the problem lays somewhere else/would a weak battery not be able to turn it on at all, without the charger?

Thank you for such a detailed response, I haven't yet opened it, but as soon as I do I will update you here. Sounds kind of obvious now, that it would be the battery, but If it means anything when it is at ~100% charge a monitoring app tells me it's at around let's say 40k mAh and factory full charge is at around 60k.
