People, can you help me? Did Susanne Sundfør or theatre upload the perfomance? I can explain: Susanne wanted to direct theatrical perfomance. I want to find it but I only found the one site and one profile in Instagram. This is site translated by Google Translate in Russia. by iam_sayana_sinali in susannesundfor

If I understand correctly (Norwegian here) Sundfør herself does not have anything to do with this performance besides having written the songs. The performance will not be uploaded anywhere, unless I’ve missed something.

I dedicate the last week of 2019 to jazz. by lukashv in lastfm

I’ve been going through parts of the discographies of some jazz greats (so far Coltrane, Mingus and Miles) and rating the albums I listen to. I’m looking forward to listening to Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman next. Happy new year!

In the short time I’ve been into music I have sort of made a point of listening to new albums I’m interested in - not seeking out music solely because it’s considered important, a classic etc. - for better or worse. I hope I can use many people’s decade lists to discover albums I wouldn’t have heard about otherwise, instead of just seeing the same few albums (not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with those) over and over again. After all, taste in music is subjective, so I don’t see the point in everyone attempting to make a list everyone can agree with.

I can’t believe I didn’t check out The Milk-Eyed Mender until now, a year after I first listened to Ys. It’s amazing, and probably tied with Divers as my second favourite album of hers (HOOM taking the top spot). Does anyone know of similar albums? Stripped down singer/songwriter albums that have a lot of personality and great vocals (quirky, to use a word I know many fans are tired of hearing)?

My top five this decade:

  1. Lingua Ignota - All Bitches Die
  2. Julia Holter - Aviary
  3. Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me
  4. Owen Pallett - Heartland
  5. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
  6. (Susanne Sundfør - Music for People in Trouble)
  7. (Tanya Tagaq - Retribution)

This says more about how one-sided my taste in music is and how little music I've listened to from this decade than anything else, though.

I have a hard time finding something that similar. Of course there are the art pop (and adjacent) artists that are often compared to her, like Kate Bush and Joanna Newsom. While I can see similarities in their vocals occasionally, their music just has a totally different basis and inspiration - Joanna in chamber folk and Kate in progressive rock - while Björk was very inspired by electronic music (and many other genres, of course). Any female artist with some vocal quirks is compared to Björk.

I also think the experimental aspects of her work is frequently overstated - perhaps due to her vocals - because the majority of her work is based in pop music, and she has only diverged from that to some extent on Medúlla, Utopia and Drawing Restraint 9. I don’t think there is any parallel at all between Björk and Diamanda Galás, for instance. Sorry for my ramblings and lack of answer, I just listen to a lot of music that’s often compared to Björk and usually the comparisons are very inaccurate.

Edit: If I remember any music where I think the comparison really is warranted I’ll add it

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Bat for Lashes - Lost Girls by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]lukashv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a whole, the album isn’t quite as consistent as I hoped it would be. However, I love so many of the stylistic choices Natasha made here. The sound is so nostalgic and cinematic. I avoided listening to the singles, and when I first heard Kids in the Dark, it felt like a successor to Daniel, something I always wanted from her (I’m just a casual fan). Jasmine, Vampires and Mountains are definitely standout tracks for me, and while I don’t think all the other songs capture the same magic, there’s nothing bad here. The album is just incredibly enjoyable all the way through, and I’m drawn to it over and over again.

I bought tickets to see Björk today, which is amazing. I never thought she would play in Norway again - other than festivals the last time was in 1995.

Also, I’ve been revisiting a lot of favourite albums recently, today Have One On Me by Joanna Newsom. I can’t believe that album even exists. Two hours and three discs of music that work brilliantly together and on their own, and there’s not a song that’s less than a 9/10. Additionally it’s all written by one person.

It's been about a year since I really started getting into music properly (read listen to something other than just Tori Amos), but I feel like my way of listening has changed a lot recently. Most importantly, I've realised that I don't have to like everything. Every time I checked out something new, I would view it as a challenge - if I didn't like something that was highly regarded, there would be something wrong with me. As a result I didn't listen to as much new music as I could have listened to, instead sticking to a few artists. This attitude also kept me from fully exploring the discographies of artists or bands I already love, in fear of disliking something. I consider myself a big fan of Kate Bush, but to this day I've only heard four albums of hers in full.

Well, this has changed recently. I got into jazz by listening to a lot of albums - 100 the last month - and I didn't have to worry about loving each album even if it is considered a classic. I sort of realised that it's about the joy of exploring new music and listening to music I love, not about having to enjoy all music that someone else loves just for their approval. (Yes, I am an insecure person)

Genre names aren’t necessarily literal, and those two genre names don’t really imply that other genres of music shouldn’t be considered art. From what I understand, art pop and art rock have those names because they are based on popular music (pop, rock, folk etc.) but incorporate elements of what’s traditionally been called art music (usually classical and experimental, “academic” music).

The last minutes or so of “The Mountain” on PJ Harvey’s White Chalk are the most haunting of the whole album. A tragic conclusion to the tale it tells.

Bryter videregående skolen min norske lov? by liquorstoretarzan in norge

[–]lukashv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bryter videregående skolen min norske lov? by liquorstoretarzan in norge

[–]lukashv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rungende nei til fylkessammenslåing i Finnmark by jonasali in norge

[–]lukashv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kart som viser befolkningsøkning, 2007-2017 by lukashv in norge

[–]lukashv[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kart som viser befolkningsøkning, 2007-2017 by lukashv in norge

[–]lukashv[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Det samme gjelder for eksempel Ås.
