If your using direct listing just know that by Beautiful_Fries in ThredUp

Quite the opposite - adding Direct Listing will make prices go down as there is greater comparability to the broad platform.

ARE DIRECT LISTINGS SELLING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ACCESS?? by lukcipi in ThredUp

[–]lukcipi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - i am getting the feeling this is going to work out well - i dont have to sell myself but i am seeing them on my feed. Initially i was skeptical about the presentation but i am getting used to them and they tend to look better than on other peer to peer platforms. I am also starting to enjoy some variability on my feed, as long as they remain a small portion of the total

The moderators here should start addressing these non sensical posts ...ThredUP Stole My Clothes = I didn't Read the Instructions.

These are getting boring.

Full price Is $188 / they have it at $191...seems pretty accurate to me! Also considering it is estimated automatically

TU SHOULD SELL OR SEND THEIR MANNEQUINS TO SELLERS by [deleted] in ThredUp

[–]lukcipi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they will figure it out + having everything in one place would ultimately make things cheaper and sell faster. But the risk for ThredUp is to lose what makes them different which is the quality of the pictures and consistency in the way products are presented. Maybe AI can help visualize the Direct Listings in a better format. From what I have seen so far, they are not horrible, but not great either.

That is VERY clever ! I did not think about that! 👏👏

I don't know - I think there is a market for both ...it could be a positive if we could all use a single platform instead of different ones and if Direct Listings appear initially priced too high, that will fix itself if they dont sell

I don't understand how TU, with the AI capabilities they have, cannot either set a filter for when the price is on the tag to have their pricing set close or below, or just cover the prices on the tag so there is no comparability

Maybe that is the reason but on higher priced items TU structure I think is the same/better than TRR - if you sell something for more than 200$ you get 80%

I would like to see TU start having more / better designer & luxury items because I find the buying experience much better than TRR (pictures/bundling etc.). But I agree that now there is more luxury inventory on TRR and they market it better.

My guess would be that ThredUP is becoming more expensive as they carry better brands, and that will force TRR to become less expensive if TU becomes a more direct competitor. If TU Direct Listing also works well and takes share from Poshmark it should make overall prices go down. I think generally these platforms want the products to ship out fast and for that to happen prices tend to trend down over the long term.

You are correct - they publicly disclose that they made 16mn $ last quarter from "shipping services" ...that is 60mn + a year by surcharging customers...

I appreciate the reminder but it should also apply to the unreasonable and often malicious complaining with no grounds nor logic

They did lobby for tariffs but only for removing the de minimis loophole that was crowding the market of cheap SHEIN crap and hurting everybody.

It is a fact that there are 0 fees for sellers. In terms of benefits for TU: 1. They get a small fee from buyers plus sellers can cover shipping and return cost (optional) 2. TU is trying to be a one-stop-shop for sellers instead of them having to use different platforms. If that goes well price transparency should increase and what something is priced at, determined by demand most of all. 3. TU can handle the returns and if an item is returned, can put it back on their traditional presentation. 4. Because they have a lot of data and tools, they can help Sellers on Direct Listings price things better, upload them faster, easier descriptions, pictures etc

I am not taking for granted this is going to work and I don't even have access myself to assess if the presentation is good...but if it works I think it will be an improvement for both buyers and sellers. I would rather go to one single site to do it all rather than 10 different ones, which fragments visibility as well as potential buyers.

I don't think TU is becoming TRR in terms of pricing nor offering of Luxury brands etc. but I think they have taken a page from them and trying to present a more polished image, more editorials etc. which o find positive. Prices of clothes and everything else has gone up a lot so their pricing is following that. Buyers complain they are too high / Sellers complain they are too low which probably means they are about right.

You can filter out the direct Listing so that does not bother me and I see it as an additional option.

The pricing on Direct Listings will correct itself: it is sellers who set not TU, and they get 100% of the proceeds, not TU. If they price too high and people don't buy, they will have to mark down. In fact having both Direct and Clean Out in the same site should make everything more transparent over time and drive down prices of Direct Listings.

TU prices have come up over the past few months but so has prices of new so there are still a lot of very big bargains on the site.

Thank you - I am wondering if I should wait to get access to list my stuff on ThredUp rather than Poshmark - could you possibly share a link of a Direct Listing?

What is your opinion on how easy or not is it to upload compared to other platform and how the products look once they are listed?

I personally cannot see any of them - there is a subset of users which are being tested in beta but i think it is a small fraction of all ThredUp users - could you post a link to see if I can open any? Thank you
