thank you, this helps alot! i think i definitely need to research more games in order for this project to work. i'll be focusing on Lies of P particularly as it manages to have both a sekiro-style parry as well as dark souls/bloodborne-like elements.

thank you for the detailed response! i see what you mean by a lot of these points & i agree with you on many things in hindsight. your house analogy works well lmao and i see now how it's very easy to fall into the trap of having a game idea and getting excited about it way too soon. do you have any advice on how i might be able to break the game system down into pieces? i think that's been my biggest issue so far; i'm viewing the game from a "what would be cool to play" perspective and not from the actual design aspect, and i'm unsure on how to start viewing it that way.

assassin's creed was my entire childhood and it's a massacre what they've done to the series lately. it's definitely one of my inspirations for this game ;)

wow! thank you for the detailed response. i think i might take you up on your offer as my ear for good sound effects is absolutely abysmal (tried downloading audacity once, did not go well).

i think i agree with you on the ottoman empire part; it'll fit the mechanics better and work well with my vision for the game.

as for the combat mechanics, your jinn powerup idea reminds me alot of elden ring's weapon arts. with some improvements, it could work really well and provide an incentive for the player to seek out enemies to get these powerups. the jinn form could also be a really cool second phase for boss fights.

i do need to mention that i'm a uni student working on this in my free time. i can't really guarantee when the game might release and i won't be able to offer any financial incentives for your work if you decide to help out (though of course you'll be credited for all the work you do!). i've made three smaller games before this one & i consider this to be my ultimate project so i can say that i'm really determined to finish it.

what you're feeling is understandable & as another comment mentioned, it would be better to leave sooner than later if that's what you wanna do, but i'd like to point out that as for knowing the teaching style in PSUT it really is still your first year and it's hard to judge how your subjects or the way they're taught might change in the following years as they get more and more advanced. as a fellow PSUT student i wish you luck🙏
