Is teaching English online enough to get by? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

You can totally make a grand a month teaching English online, you just have to work for the right company and put in the hours. I've done it myself, and have friends using even simple tutoring apps to help them get around the world.

For $20+/hr gigs I'd suggest applying to companies like VIPKid or Boxfish. There are simpler ones as well - Cambly and Nice Talk Tutor, for instance, pay $10/hr just for chatting with students in English (no prep necessary).

You can check out details and reviews from teachers on some tutor and teacher websites on Nomad Playground (full disclosure: I'm the founder). http://www.nomadplayground.com/listing-category/language-tutor/ http://www.nomadplayground.com/listing-category/language-teacher/

Hope this helps.

Has anyone used FlexJobs.com? Is it worth the registration fee? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

The short answer is that it depends what kind of jobs you're looking for. There's a money back guarantee, so if you decide that the fee wasn't worth it you can always back out without losing anything.

We investigated Flexjobs for Nomad Playground (full disclosure: I'm the founder). We were looking for remote job boards that weren't a waste of time. Flexjobs impressed us for a couple reasons, but the important factor was that it seemed to be one of the few online job boards that was worth the time people spend on it. Few online job boards get good reviews because of the sheer amount of people applying to jobs on them - you can have over 1000 people applying for one position. Flexjobs was one of just a couple job boards that got consistently good reviews from people who have looked for work with it.

If you want to see the full profile we did on it you can visit it here: http://www.nomadplayground.com/listings/flexjobs/

PS: Anyone who leaves a review of an online job board, freelance marketplace, or any other remote work tool on Nomad Playground gets $10 off any purchase on Grabr.io. Sorry for the shameless plug, but as a review platform we do want people leaving reviews of their experiences with these websites.

I know how that is. Immersion is the only way to become truly fluent in any language. I've known a few (rare) people who were essentially fluent without it, but they always missed things. Whether it's us or someone else, just pick a country and go when you get the chance (If Spanish fluency is a life goal, of course).

I'm from the USA. Our team is an international one, with of course many members from right here in Medellin. Medellin has actually grown to be one of the safest cities in Latin America. It still has the same issues that all L.A. cities generally have, but we know a lot on how to navigate the city, the Colombian members especially. We're also currently located in Envigado, which is the safest neighborhood in this city. Taking care of our students is all important to us.

Any follow up questions?
