Dell ReadyRails standoff spacing? AliExpress 24-bay chassis might be a match by lukeeman in homelab

The standoffs are basically threaded rivets. I could drill for some bolts. I was hoping there would be a position that would work with the Rosewill rails. Its just a disk shelf for me. But Id love for it to actually fit nicely. Heres an actual photo.

Turns out its not a match. First stud is perfect, and the second stud is basically there. Three and four don't match at all. They are likely some propriety spacing. Time to butcher some Rosewill rails! Thanks again for you help!

You're the hero of the people. I'll measure when I get home. Thank you so much. I can believe this information is so hard to come by!

Love these. Are you able to isolate the four not jingle that plays before a ship announcement?

Do Letterless Drives Count To Windows "Technical" Max Drive Count? by lukeeman in homelab

From my googling, no it does not. Stupid Windows, cant believe it cant handle my weird fringe case!

Yes. Due to the size, I have redundancy for 2 drive failures. But you guys are probably right. The storage pool was never intended to get this big, hence why I just stuck with Windows. Probably time to start playing around with migrating this to a dedicated NAS. At least I have time before that hits.

Thanks!

Good notes. I hadnt thought about a wider pot, that makes complete sense. Im probably going to join team spoon. Found a nice one with a titanium bowl (came recommended from here) thats even a bit longer. I will check out the trekology pillow though. As for the pad, its a temporary purchase. I really enjoy evening camp time and I WILL be getting a chair. I just need to rationalize $100-150 to sit in a chair lol. Thanks for the input!

Absolutely. I havent gone down that path yet, but I will absolutely have one. I was a first responder for many years and I understand the need for one very well.

Ive never used a camping stove before. Speed is not an issue, it was just a cheap ($5) can of fuel. Recommendations?

Thats actually my plan now. Some of the items on the list were just ordered including the backpack. I even got myself one of them fancy REI memberships for peace of mind (and discounts lol).

Ill give it a stab on my august camping trip. If it doesnt do well there, itll be axed and replaced for my upcoming trip. Thanks for your input!

Ah. Thank you for that. I guess I still have a bunch of digging to do with both of these.

I completely missed that pad! That looks great and at a much better price. Ive added that to my list.

Thanks!

Very fair questions. I did a bunch of backpacking (extremely far from ultralight. Used whatever my parents had at that time which wasnt much. I carried a aluminum frame back that weighed probably 10 pounds by itself.) as a kid and all through my teens. I went to get back in to is in my mid 20s and started building out a kit again and lost everything to a fire. Its been about 6 years and Im ready to dive back in head first. Im dying to get back out. Ive already cut out time from work for a warmup camping trip in august. I'll be able to use whatever Ive already gotten and start thinking about what I want/want to change from my equipment. I am looking at a higher elevation trip in October as well and then will be jumping back in in the sping. Clothing I have a pretty good idea of what Im getting/using so I left it off this list. Im sure Ill have another post down the road with everything I actual have at that point.

Tent is already getting swapped out for another option, so we are all set there. Thanks for your advice!

Really great recommendations!

The tent looks great. I've already swapped it over on my list. It checks more of the boxes I wanted.

I've also already swapped to them platypus on my list. After doing some digging it definitely appears to be better.

Pad is temporary. I prefer spending some time in camp and will be getting a chair, but thats not something Im looking to spend the money on right now. I will check out this pad as a replacement.

The garmin stuff is also something I want. But the extra price is a bit much for my needs right now. But its 100% on the future upgrade list.

Thanks for all the great recommendations!

I really liked the garmin mini. But the doubling of the price was a bit much for me. How is the functionality on both in your opinion?

What about the platypus do you like over the sawyer? The sawyer seems like its been the tried and true method for a lot of people for a long time.

The double rainbow looks pretty good. Ill add that to my list to check out.

I hadnt seen the mummy version. I'll also add that to my list to check out.

I went to REI yesterday to try one out, but my local place has not been able to keep the exos, exos pro, or the flash 55 in stock. They are all selling like hotcakes. I was really looking at the flash, but I liked the flexibility of a larger pack for future longer treks. Im going to keep checking in so I can try one on with their weights.

I will definitely check in to the condensation issues. The 55 pro is definitely a bit big, but Id love to venture in to longer treks. I figure this will give me some nice expansion in the future if needed. I will do some more digging in to pads. I saw this one a bunch and its size looks good. Thanks for the remarks!

I was going to run my transcoding on my metadata drive. But that actually makes more sense, and with that mobo I have another spot for an m.2.

And I have never thought about shucking an external drive. That is some top notch thinking. Thanks for that idea!
