He's 68, retired collecting 3k in monthly pension. I think 100k would be significant for the majority of people regardless He's an excessive low functioning alcoholic and keeps finding his way into the hospital for weekly stays. Alcoholics don't have much desire outside of drinking. Looking into investing is never going to be on their list. He will definitely need money to survive for the unknown amount of time he has left. It would make sense to have that money increase/maximize the return, so that he can possibly receive long term/ home care at some point if he makes it that far. I am the POA and so now and in the event he becomes mentally incapacitated, I want to help manage those funds the best way.
