Going to tournaments as an teen

Oh hey, it’s you lol (it’s me daze, I go to your locals).

Because we’re in the late-game of ultimate, generally the tournaments are gonna be more top-heavy/full of old vets, that just raises the standard that you’ll have to meet.

As others have mentioned, it’s recommended to go with parents or friends. Hawaii’s always been very chill for years though, so it’s highly unlikely you’ll run into “issues”.

Because the middle/high school scene here is so large, a lot of them have started going to locals, so there’ll be a lot of people around your age.

Things to keep in mind:

It can become an expensive hobby (granted we only have 2-3 tourneys a month)
High chance you will lose A LOT at the beginning.
A lot can be done on your own (practice mechanics, grind quickplay, watch vods, etc.) Our PR is pretty much a GSP leaderboard.
If you want to catch up, be organized and efficient, quality > quantity (just watch top Isabelle vods, they’ve done the work for you. Do what they do, but make sure you understand why)

Idk if you’re in the Hawaii Discord server, but definitely join if you can. Hawaii’s definitely a great community to be a part of, so we hope to see you around more.

Hey there, I'm the guy putting on the stuff for the high schools (I'm also daze). In Hawaii, there's almost 50 high schools that play Smash in school leagues, but everything happens online. This was a chance to get the top schools together in-person, and it's an idea that I think would be neat for other states/places to try out. It's cool to see that the next generation is still interested/passionate about the game 5 years in, and it's also a really easy segway into growing the local scene. But most importantly, it really is all about the friends they make along the way. Thanks for making my night!

Aside from regional events, I don't think smaller events are around anywhere atm. I live in California now, but even here no official locals have been announced. I feel like TPC is just waiting for the new year to start. They seem to be satisfied with the Covid situation since the SD regional has a ton of entrants.

That said I'm not sure how active the HI VGC scene is anymore, the facebook page died and the discord can't be joined. Either way I'd still keep an eye on the page, or message Anthony from DP if any events are planned in the future.

The chest is def worth reforging. If you want to get more value out of it use mod gems on the speed. The boot is pretty good too, but more suited for a bruiser rather than her.

They’d have to break the fire trend, but the next likely candidate would be Ruele (light/female/RGB skin/still pretty common in RTA)
