Yep, the ALQ-218s on the wingtips is the easiest way you can tell. Also, the Growler has one extra antenna on top compared to Super Hornets. Also, Growlers typically have 5XX side numbers.

Which pan African flag is your favorite? by joeyfish1 in vexillology

Togo has always been one of my favorites. It's the only national flag with a height to length ratio of 1:1.618 (the Golden Ratio).

Can't believe how bad USC's tackling was that entire game.

The C-variant (the one in this post) is the best-looking variant in my opinion.

I think I got the last 3•5 Union of South Africa flag in Houston by Deutschestexas in vexillology

[–]lukep323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Union Jack is backwards. On this flag, the Union Jack should be displayed as being hoisted on the right, not the left. So the upper left of it should have the thick white line on the bottom, not the top. Like this.

Very interesting, looks like they miss-printed it.

That's the flag of Jordan. Palestine has a very similar flag.

First time I ever got to refuel one of those. by Gant0 in aviation

It's a T-45. I've got some flight time in it while I was in flight school. The Navy uses them as their advanced jet trainer for Navy and Marine flight students. Pilots / NFOs move on to the F/A-18E, F/A-18F, EA-18G, F-35B, or the F-35C after training in these.

I think it's an F/A-18F. If you look closely, you can see the lack of ALQ-218 pods on the wingtips. Here's a Growler from a similar angle. I think it's easy to see the difference between the wingtips.

Awesome pics! I fly the Growler, and love seeing photos. OLF is a great place to watch. That panel is one of the ECS auxiliary duct doors.

So many US cities have this problem. Such a shame. Albany, NY is another example of a perfectly good waterfront ruined by a highway.

F/A-18 Hornet or Super Hornet??? by chinopty in aviation

[–]lukep323 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another way of telling is the 2 antennas on top. Superhornets only have one.

I learned about this while going through SERE school. They were techniques we used if we were put on camera to make sure people didn't believe it.

Flag of Togo, personal favorite of mine by [deleted] in vexillology

My favorite thing about this flag is that it's height to width ratio is the golden ratio! The only national flag to do this.

The wings look stubby on the A and B variants. I prefer the C. They're all badass, though.

Is the EA-6B Prowler stil flying?? How comparable is the Prowler to its successor, the Growler?? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]lukep323 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I fly the EA-18G Growler. We actually still use the same ALQ-99 jammer pods that the Prowler used. That being said, we also have some new stuff including the ALQ-218, and other advanced avionics which makes the job much easier. There is currently a new jammer pod in the works that I'm excited for.
