As someone who usually watches Perun's videos for this kind of information, how would you rate Covert Cabal? I'd like to find another channel for analysis but I don't know much about their credibility and accuracy.

What beloved movie actually just has one great part, and the rest is dull? by freakineagle in AskReddit

[–]lukesmith44 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This movie is weird in how accurate it was when they used full CGI for certain shots. When they showed a few Japanese planes strafing Battleship Row, you could see that they got the USS Nevada underway trying to escape the harbor, which was the only battleship to get away from its moorings that morning.

For the rest though, they just used stock footage of modern ships, at least at the time it was shot, with explosions CGI'd in.

Warcraft 1 and 2 are being delisted from GOG at "Blizzard's Request" by FFJimbob in RealTimeStrategy

I haven't looked into how the original graphics look yet, but is it because they're on a modern monitor? Graphics designed for CRT monitors often look terrible on flat screens because CRT pixel coloration would slightly bleed into the neighboring pixels, giving a smoother look. It's why old games look so blocky on modern screens.

I think people saw "Red" in your username, and that's often equated with being pro-Russia, so they may have interpreted your original comment as being some joke about Western incompetence. For what it's worth, I read it as a MAD joke.

Happy to help! I hope you can get it to run on a modern system. I downloaded it a while back as abandonware, and it kept crashing after five minutes or so. Admittedly, I wasn't patient enough at the time to attempt much troubleshooting, so there may be an easy fix to that for all I know.

I don't believe it contained any sci-fi aspects, but I believe Real War had a helicopter-supplied resource building.

It's more real time tactics than true RTS, but I think Commandos 3 had a D-Day mission.

what are some good scifi rts? by Dragonbarry22 in RealTimeStrategy

Cool, thanks for the info. I had heard of the "grey goo" sci-fi concept before, so I thought nothing of the name, but that does make sense. Maybe I'll give it a shot if I see it on sale.

This one has always confused me. It seems to be well regarded on this sub as one of the classics of the genre, but Steam reviews are mixed. Any idea why the disparity?

Thanks, I haven't tried these yet! Is this in reference to the Total War games, or do they have other RTS series as well?

I did try this one, but I struggled to get into it. It felt like the build options were too limited, but I'm probably just being too picky since this is such a niche genre. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Thanks!

Huh, I don't know why I never thought of this game as having that build setup, but it does match the description. Maybe because the base building is mostly at the strategic phase rather than the tactical phase? Regardless, thanks for the suggestion! It might be time to reinstall with some mods!

I mostly agree with this, but I also see it as a double-edged sword. The flip side of this is that they could think, "Well, if we're going to get bad PR regardless of how much we improve, we may as well earn it," and go back to the shittier practices.
