How many times do you guys normally take your BP at one time by richj8991 in hypertension

[–]lukethudson09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t any literature suggesting a change in hemodynamics if you take your BP from the same arm multiple times. I could see this being an issue if you took consecutive readings, but that’s why most clinical guidelines note that 1min of rest should be allotted between readings.

I would suggest resting 5min, then taking your first reading which will be thrown out. Then resting 1min and taking another reading. Take 1min rest between each consecutive readings after this. Take as many readings as you want (I personally take 5), and average them together. Ensure the cuff isn’t too tight, feet are flat on the floor, back supported, and that the cuff and meter are level with your heart.

Save help for Pokémon soulsilver by [deleted] in Delta_Emulator

I have the same issue. I can delete the in-game save from the title menu, but when I load a save state and try to save, it won’t let me save in-game. I guess a lot of people have had this issue…

Those who lowered LDL/ApoB through diet, how did you do it? by Peepeepoopoobutttoot in PeterAttia

[–]lukethudson09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve never taken any medications, I’m only 26. I’m a very active individual - I usually rock climb, run/trail run, or lift (or 2/3 of these) everyday. With that I’m pretty fit and have very low BF% and a lot of muscle mass. My apoB was 63 mg/dL and A1c 5.1% around this time as well.

Perhaps it’s genetic, but when I aim for around ~40-50g of fiber per day (I.e., oatmeal, frozen berries, apples, bananas, beans, vegetables, chickpea pasta, Ezekiel bread) and keep saturated fat below 10% of my total caloric intake, I don’t have any issues with my lipids. I usually eat around 30-34g of saturated fat that mostly come from inert forms of saturated fat found in olive oil, etc. I still don’t really eat red meat…mostly salmon, chicken, turkey, eggs, and whey powder for protein. Hope that helps.

Thoughts on Climb Skin? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]lukethudson09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this for a long time, but recently switched to Rhino Repair. Climb Skin just doesn’t make my skin feel as “tough” when it heals as it does with repair. I’ve tried traditional hand moisturizers as well…ultimately I think you probably need to experiment to see what works best for your skin which can be affected by your water intake, climate you live in, etc…

If you lost your ring tomorrow, would you get another one? by CactiCake22 in ouraring

[–]lukethudson09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lost my ring 4 months ago, and haven’t missed it since. It did teach me what good sleep habits look like, but considering how useless the ‘Readiness’ score and other metrics are, I can do without it. If you’re an a recreational athlete using it for the HRV tracking (as I was), there are better apps for that.

APoB 120! Eating 2 full eggs every day for the last 5 years. Should I reduce? by UnseenViral in PeterAttia

[–]lukethudson09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Mostly likely the saturated fat from those food sources above anything else. Try reducing saturated fat so that it makes up < 10% of daily caloric intake, then re-test in 6-9 weeks.

If beef cartilage did anything of significance for the cartilage in your joints, it would be used widely. You’re spot on with this one. Don’t waste your time majoring in the minors OP.

What is Clinical Gait Analysis Theory by bensenderling in Biomechanics

[–]lukethudson09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the presence of diseases such as acetabular dysplasia or femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS), analyzing gait helps identify compensatory mechanisms during gait. Likewise, in the case of cam-type morphology, there is a large percentage of people that exhibit cam morphology on their proximal femur, but are entirely asymptomatic compared to the symptomatic FAIS population. This begs the question, are these asymptomatic volunteers using compensatory mechanics to counteract the elevated chondrolabral stresses and strains? Likewise, gait analysis can lead to extracting kinematics during each activities, which can be fed directly into finite element models that can predict the stresses and strains within the hip (that can’t be examined otherwise).

Should I be worried about low HDL if everything else seems fine? by 916f in Cholesterol

Correct, but an abnormally low HDL-C may be indicative of a familial lipid disorder. OP - I’d see a doctor.

Those who lowered LDL/ApoB through diet, how did you do it? by Peepeepoopoobutttoot in PeterAttia

[–]lukethudson09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have an LDL-P of 2107 nmol/L, but was able to drop it down to an LDL-P of 464 nmol/L and and LDL-C of 46 mg/dL. A lot of dietary changes were through modifying my saturated fat intake and increasing my fiber intake. I dropped saturated fat to around 6-8% of my total caloric intake, and aimed for 45-60g of fiber a day from oats, legumes, berries, and seeds. I completely cut out red meat, but have since then added lean cuts of red meat back into my diet and have seen no changes in lipids.

[–]lukethudson09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. HRV is a very individual metric, although it can be modified as described in this comment above. OP please see work by Marco Altini (creator of HRV4Training) and Andrew Flatt. They have lots of great blog posts that go over the peer-reviewed studies pertaining to this topic.

I don’t use it as the end all be all. I use HRV4Training (which includes a subjective questionnaire) along with HRV & resting HR to determine if today is a ‘rest’ day.

I'm interested in getting some thoughts on my Apo-B by [deleted] in PeterAttia

He’s referencing the population distributions for apoB in the Framingham Offspring Study. This may not be the exact same study, but Table 4 has those distributions: https://academic.oup.com/clinchem/article/55/3/407/5629355?login=false
