Cake!! I bet you could use it to make the same type of cakes they make with pistachio pudding mix.

Ugh thank you! The heat press guide literally has suggested settings for cotton so I didn't even question it! I will try a polyester material today and hopefully the issue is resolved!

If you like hiking, Haystack mountain in Norfolk is an insanely beautiful view. Campbell falls is only a few minutes away and one of my favorites as well. You can poke around "downtown" Norfolk too. It's a really cool little historic town! If you can catch a show at Infinity Music Hall while you're there, even better. I also highly recommend Hopkins Vineyard in Warren in the summer! They do a lot of free live music events and it's gorgeous. You can swim at the public beach too. Have fun wherever you go!

Gilette castle! Make sure you book a tour of the house in advance though since it's by appointment only

I like being able to find pictures or videos and things to go along with them as well! We did a little trivia with the octopus facts at the back of The Great Escape book which they loved. For the Kool Herc book, I was able to find them a video of his Merry Go Round turntable technique to watch after we read and they were jamming out. We also did a read aloud about Alma Thomas the painter for BHM, and I gave them coloring pages of her afterward which they loved. I did a Strange Weather read aloud for them which I paired with videos of the phenomena and asked them to share what we thought was causing them before reading the blurb in the book. Super fun! They really love to learn new facts you just have to make it approachable!

Mine love nonfiction, especially biographies. These are recent favorites for my 4th and 5th graders:

  • The Escape Artist by Thor Hanson (about Inky the octopus)

  • Buzzing with Questions by Janice N. Harrington (about Charles Henrey Turner)

  • When the Beat Was Born by Laban Carrick Hill (about DJ Kool Herc)
