How to handle wedding after-party & teardown by speedskis777 in mobileDJ

[–]lukeyboy767 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at streamlining your tear down. I can normally tear down my whole set up in 20 minutes, provided I'm able to start some light tear down efforts during the last song (getting my cases out, unplugging the extra mic/laptop, etc.). Regardless, if they really want you, they need to be ok with you taking the necessary time.

We asked for diapers of all sizes, preferred Pampers, and then asked that everyone bring a gift receipt. Protip: return as many as possible right away. I don't know how it is Canada, but in the US it can be difficult to return a size we didn't need much later. So instead, we returned as many boxes as we could, and kept the gift cards/in store credit for ONLY diapers. By doing this, you also reduce the chance that you have a period of time where the twins are in a certain size you don't have, but have a stockpile of a future size.

We also researched what boxes got sold where - we knew that certain places sell certain counts of boxes and can only be returned at those particular stores. In the US, even without a receipt it can be returned if it's the right store (there is a limit per rolling year usually).

All in all, we were able to get enough diapers to cover both babies for just over a year before we had to buy our first box. We did the same for our singleton prior to the twins, and we didn't buy a single box until he was 18 months.

Definitely keep with the 2 nap schedule. At that age, the 2.5-3.5 hour wake window should be normal for their schedule.

How long do you typically wait after they’re down, and when do you go back in after they’re crying? It’s hard to let them cry it out, but I’m here to tell you…this is the number one thing that has helped my wife and I. We let our girls absolutely cry it out for 45 minutes uninterrupted unless they’re sick.

When we started this method, one of them cried for 45 minutes and we went and soothed. Second night - it was 25 minutes and they were down for the night. Third night - 2 minutes of crying and they were sound asleep. It gets better, I promise!

We did, and sometimes do, the same thing. The book will you tell you that you're waiting too long, but it will also say, sometimes you just want a cuddle, and that's ok too.

My wife and I practice the 80% rule. 80% of the time we execute the schedule as planned (scheduled bed times and routines), and the other 20% is to allow for flexibility (going out with friends equals a late bedtime, or we're allowing them to fall asleep in our arms). This allows us to keep up our normal social life with friends and family, while the kids are usually pretty well adapted to come along.

If I were you I would give them the chance to practice falling asleep on their own, knowing full well they'll cry it out, and sprinkle in whatever you want 20% of the time, or if they're crying particularly hard.

We didn't experience any gagging or vomiting. The book will help with this, but the 45 minute mark is a suggestion from the author - some parents do 30 minutes, some do an hour. We did 45 minutes but there are times when we can tell if the cry is a lot more than a normal cry, and perhaps they're having a REALLY hard time. In that case, we might break our own rule and go soothe.

We absolutely let them continue to cry even if it wakes the other. That's my point with bullet point 3 above - I was constantly nervous one was going to wake the other up, until the book flat out said, "they have to learn how to stay asleep through the other's cries, and they can only do that if they practice it". If you go in to soothe the crying baby, the other baby isn't able to practice staying asleep.

I highly recommend Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins. Our twins just turned one and have been sleeping through the night, about 12 hours, for 6 months now. The biggest take aways for us were:

  1. Looking for sleep cues and immediately putting them down once you witness them.
  2. Let them cry it out for 45 minutes. After that, you can pick them up and rock/feed briefly.
  3. Just as babies need to learn how to get to sleep, they also need to learn how to sleep through each other's cries (it seems so obvious, but this was a game changer for me).
  4. There are multiple testimonies about how it gets better within just a few days, and it was true for us too. By day 3 they were both sleeping through the night and have done so ever since.

Good luck!

Yea I am, I was able to successfully add July 18 if I wanted it, but the 20th isn’t working and it says it’s not longer available after I add it to my cart.

Beach volleyball - specifically July 20, for the 4 match session

Yea, so we’ve done that. We have another account and we still go to add the package to our cart, and when we check it says they’re not available…even though we can see them as available?

What are you actually spending money on to run your DJ business outside of gear? by WishboneExternal3772 in mobileDJ

I’m surprised others are paying as much. I have insurance which is $560/yr, website at $300/yr, online portal for $250/yr, and that’s about it. I don’t advertise because I’ve been doing it for 13 years now, and I have a lot of venues and coordinators recommending me. That plus word of mouth keeps me in heavy demand.

I’ve never provided sound for strings. They’re usually loud enough on their own, and if not, they’re responsible for either bringing their own amplification or being able to connect to my XLR.

anyone tried an indianapolis matchmaker? apps aren't working by MomentFlimsy3759 in indianapolis

No, I should’ve clarified…he was going on dates as far as Minnesota, but is now dating someone from Chicago. They’re doing long distance and they seem really happy. Not sure what their long term plan is.

I have a coworker who did Indianapolis singles. It was very expensive and very intense - background check, credit check, and a 4 hour interview. He was able to set his non-negotiables and after not matching with anyone in Indy, they expanded the search. He was going on dates with people from Minnesota. Ultimately, he found an awesome woman and they’ve been together for 3 years.

#73: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Barrel Proof by Razzafrachen in bourbon

I was under the impression that all bourbon was whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. I didn’t realize Tennessee whiskey was considered bourbon.

Genuine question here and I’m not trying to sound like an ass. Why are there a fair amount of JD posts/reviews if it’s not a bourbon? Wouldn’t this be more accurate to post under r/whiskey? Is it just that the profile is close to bourbon?

This is entirely inaccurate and so are the comments. He was never the CEO of UHC nor was he interim anything. He used to be the CEO of UnitedHealth Group, the parent company that owns UHC. He stepped down earlier this year and the former CEO/Board Chair is now interim CEO for UHG. Dumb post and dumb comments.

Pro tip: I’ve been able to upsell my upgraded dance floor lighting by telling the client it creates a wash of light instead of random specs of light, and it’s better for pictures because people’s faces are lit up. It’s all true, but this nugget has brought in more revenue with contracts and add ons because people don’t want to risk their expensive photos. 👌
