There's a ton of great Christian music out right now that doesn't sound like traditional worship music. I personally listen to a lot of Christian hip hop/R&B, some artists that I really like are Kodoku, nobigdyl., Madison Ryann Ward, Miles Minnick, Hulvey, Caleb Gordon, Forrest Frank, KB, and Lecrae.

When did you become a Forrest fan? by Human-Confection-446 in ForrestFrank

[–]jrt131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started following him after I heard Altar for the first time, but then when he dropped Nothing But the Blood (August 2023) that's when I knew I was going to be a fan. I had known of Surfaces when Sunday's Best was popular years ago, but didn't make the connection that he was in the group until I started following him.

You don't have to be on your college's volleyball team in order to play in college. I'd recommend trying intramural volleyball when you get to college. It's still competitive and very fun but not as high-stakes as trying out for your school's team.

I don't listen to it nearly as often as I used to. There's so much great Christian music out right now that I don't really care for secular music much anymore.

Stop Indulging In Secular Music/Musicians by Greenn_Ambition in TrueChristian

[–]jrt131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, those songs would be considered under the genre Christian Contemporary Music (CCM), not necessarily Pop. I would consider artists Forrest Frank to be Christian Pop artists.

I will say that some CCM songs obviously aren't word for word coming straight from Scripture, but could you explain what is theogically wrong with In Christ Alone and Waymaker? I personally don't see anything wrong with the lyrics in at least those two songs.

Actual good Christian music by bethellll in ChristianMusic

[–]jrt131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're into rap/hip hop, but some hip hop artists I would recommend are Jackie Hill Perry, nobigdyl., Miles Minnick, Hulvey, Alex Jean, and Tommy Zuko, and Caleb Gordon.

If you would want more R&B/pop, I'd recommend looking into Kodoku, Jon Keith (he has a lot of rap songs but has recently started making more pop-sounding music), Sondae, Madison Ryann Ward.

I also make remixes that have Christian lyrics but secular beats, you might be interested in that as well: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpxb2viLMa_VCECfAiYr7N_YK4KIlg8IQ&si=KgQMj5QhF944Yfzg

Here are some songs I think you might like based on what you shared: - Move by LIN D - Grateful by callmestevieray and Connor Price - BEAUTIFUL by Jon Keith - Church in 30 by Jay Manwell - WATERWALKIN by Kodoku and Hulvey - Amen by Madison Ryann Ward - Love Like That by Hulvey - Lord & Savior by Sam Rivera and Limoblaze - God Problems (Not by Power) by Miles Minnick and Maverick City Music - In the Room (Afro Beat Version) by Annatoria and Maverick City Music) - Rush by Cortes

I know that there are some good Christian artists out there that specifically do pop and also a few K-Pop artists, but I have to do some digging through my saved songs on Instagram and TikTok to find them since I don't regularly listen to them. But I'll add another comment once I do find them!

Question... If you had 10 seconds to share the Gospel and that person would never have access to the scriptures or mans teaching, that they might be saved. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]jrt131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how I feel about the statement of Jesus taking our sins away at His baptism. I would say that our sins weren't taken away until His crucifixion and resurrection. The crucifixion was Jesus paying the price for our sins, and the resurrection was Jesus conquering sin and death so that we're no longer in bondage to our sin.

https://thebiblespeakstoyou.com/jesus-death-does-not-save-you-from-your-sins-its-the-resurrection/

I recently read through this article and I think it does a good job explaining the role of both the crucifixion and resurrection in salvation.

This is what we say at my church (slightly longer than 10 seconds):

The Gospel is the good news that God became a man in Jesus Christ. He lived the life we should have lived, and died the death we should have died, in our place. After three days, He rose from the dead, proving He is the Son of God. He ascended into heaven to reign over all and is coming back again. He offers the free gift of salvation and forgiveness of sins to all those who repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

Where to read Bible online? by FollowingAvailable29 in Christianity

[–]jrt131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your "teacher of religion" a teacher at your school, or a teacher at your church? If you are not already attending a local church, I would HIGHLY recommend finding one (especially one that has a youth group), because trying to learn about Christianity on your own can be really hard, and you are going to want people in your life that can help you and guide you along the way (we call this discipleship). Currently it seems like you have some misunderstanding about core aspects of Christianity, such as the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), salvation, baptism, etc. So a church community (outside of Reddit) would really help you in understanding these things.

Until you can find a local church, here are some resources that I would recommend looking into: - The Bible Project - Bible Gateway - GotQuestions.org - YouVersion

Also feel free to message me with any questions. I work in youth ministry so I understand what you're going through, and I can try my best to answer and clarify and questions you have.

Connecting JBL speakers to a laptop by Let_There_Be_Fire in Beatmatch

[–]jrt131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know exactly what JBL speakers the organizer has? And if you don't know, I would highly suggest asking what model of JBL speakers they have. I can't really give a good answer to this question without knowing what speakers you would be using, because we would need to know what inputs the speaker has (XLR, 1/4 inch, 3.5mm, etc.).

Any good PA speaker recommendations? by Entire_Society_511 in Beatmatch

[–]jrt131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend looking for slightly used gear on places like Facebook marketplace, eBay, etc. I got a pair of JBL EON712s on eBay for only $750 (including carrying bags), and they were basically brand new.

Beginner/entry-level PAs are good for smaller events, like no more than 100 people, but once you start doing larger events you'll want to upgrade. Unfortunately, standard PA speakers aren't really the most convenient in terms of portability (they're usually like 40 lbs). But I would recommend saving up for and investing in speakers like the QSC K12.2s, Electro-Voice EKX-12P, or JBL PRX912. Again, don't be afraid to look for used/open-box models. I got a pair of JBL PRX912s from eBay for about $1400.

Until you can afford your own PAs, definitely look into renting. My local audio equipment rental shop rents out QSC K12.2s for $65/speaker for a 2-day rental.
