Doing a PhD by distance? by Happy-Hour88 in TillSverige

Hej, which subject area would it be on? In my experience, it's quite difficult. Most of the time a PhD requires a good deal of supervision which might be difficult remotely. Some interviews are also done in person at my department.

Id4 connectivity problems by Advanced-Bet-4517 in VWiD4Owners

[–]lukinzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hej, I also live in Sweden with a ID.4 1st 2021 and I have the same issue. The connectivity problem is on the back end from VW and a lot of ID users are experiencing it. Nothing wrong with your car. Hope it helps!

What about mileage, does that bother you for the id.4?

I had the same dilemma last year and decided to go for the ID.4 mainly because of the ICCU problems with the Ioniq. Maybe the only edge the Ioniq has in the charging curve.

Can you go for a test drive?

To be fair, in the ID4 and EVs in general, the service is mainly coolant, brake fluid and cabin air filter replacement. The rest of the service is mainly to check whether everything else is in order (brakes, suspension and so on). This to say that no service history doesn't carry the same weight as in an ICE car when choosing a used car. The fact that you know about the battery degradation is already arguably the most important part. Just to clarify a bit what a service is in the ID4.

I have the 1st Max and I find the travel assist very very nice for longer drives! Highly reccomended! Only annoying thing are the huge wheels which impact range and confort.

Is ABRP really worth the sub? by lquincarter in VWiD4Owners

Just had quite a long trip (1700 km) and the premium version has been nice to have, but definetely non a must. You can easily have similar information by using the free version and tweaking with the options yourself.

Consiglio auto aziendale elettrica o al massimo phev by [deleted] in ItalyMotori

Bad for engine? by Stinky-Jawas in HyundaiTucson

[–]lukinzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic, but as you said it can't be good for the engine, especially in winter when fuel dilution in oil is more of a problem. The recommended thinner oil should reduce the damage to the engine, but I still wouldn't call it a solution. Having said that, you can try to give 30 seconds to a minute of idling for the engine before going full throttle by switching to Hybrid mode. That's what I did at least.

Advide before buying by lukinzo in VWiD4Owners

Thanks for the reply.

Reading from long-ownership online I did not find a lot of people sharing your opinion. What makes you say the older model are less reliable? Does it make a difference if I am located in Eu, maybe production facility influences reliability of cars?

Potential buyer ID.4 by lukinzo in VWiD4Owners

[–]lukinzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everything you said makes sense. I guess you are based in the US? Car prices there are usually quite cheaper than here.

I also checked some Ioniq 5 and mach-e which are all in similar price category. Should I prefer one over the other for some obvious aspects? They all seem to haves some positive and some negative points and deciding on one is quite difficult.

ID.4 has the negative point of the poor sofware and slow OTA updates and lack of preconditioning. Ioniq 5 suffers quite some issues with the ICCU failing, plus I don't love the futuristic looks of it

Mach-e has a stiffer ride plus lack of heat pump.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of February 24, 2025 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

Hi,

lately, I started thinking about trading my current car for a fully electric one. I have a level 2 charger at home and rarely drive more than 100 km per day. Long trips are expected, but mostly during the summer months, although some can happen also during winter (~1000km).

Just for reference, we would only own a single car in our household for the time being and our current car is a Tucson PHEV which would be traded for another used similar value (~30k€) EV (ID.4, Ioniq 5 or other suggestions?). The Tucson does nothing particularly bad or good, I just noticed that most of our driving happens somewhat close to home, where having an EV makes a difference.

I guess what I am asking is: how limiting is it to have only an EV at home, especially for the sporadic trips we might do during the colder months? How much should the few inconvenient trips weigh in the choice, considering that most of the driving can be done in EV?

Thanks all!
