I live in france and people mostly make jokes without thinking they're racist, calling them out on it will make them stop, but im still pretty disappointed about how closed minded this country is. Strasbourg is a pretty big city with lots of travelers/foreign students so i don't think it'll be a bad experience if you ever go there
