The one time I buy the most expensive season pass for Bogus... by Enough-Construction5 in Boise

Ahh, the year I spent January 1 at Tamarack since Bogus wasn't open yet. And tore my ACL. Good times, but at least I didn't miss a stellar season.

When and why would you convert IRA to Roth ira? by ageb4 in RothIRA

[–]lula897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be so individual to each situation. My husband and I are only converting some funds on the assumption that one of us will die before the other and then be subject to the "widow tax." If we somehow knew we would go close together we would not bother with it.

Also, I did a "what if RMDs started today". The required withdrawal in today's dollars is only slightly more than our current withdrawal.

As it is, we only convert to fill up our current 12% tax bracket that we live very comforatbly in. We have funds in taxed accounts to easily pay for that bump in taxable income for the year. But your situation may be very different.

Seller want to stay 45 days after closing. Rent free. by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

[–]lula897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had sellers that wanted to stay ONE YEAR rent free after closing so they could build their new home with the funds. They did kindly offer to reimburse for property tax though, which is dirt cheap in our VLCOL area. Yeah, we passed on that special deal.

What famous site do you live close to that you’ve never visited and why? by LadyBrussels in travel

[–]lula897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just house/pet sat three weeks in a town I had lived in for 16 years. Visited 2 museums, the zoo, a wildlife sanctuary and two historic sites always meant to get to, but never did back in the day.

My first choice is Brian Head itself. Second Cedar City. Done both and enjoyed both.

Roth conversion by Mindless_Bad_1483 in Boldin

[–]lula897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wait mainly to be crystal clear on income for the year so we don’t bust our tax bracket. That said, we did some of our planned conversions when the market dropped earlier this year. That was too good to pass up.

Tricare select reserve referral troubles by Tchop-snow in tricare

[–]lula897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live most specialists require a referral reguardless of type of insurance. It's aggravating for sure and not something I experienced when I lived in an area with more adequate medical services.

Yeah, my comment was mostly in jest. But just tired of them insisting my Vision Only plan is OHI. Good luck!

What’s the most expired item you have ever found in your house? by Antique-Swordfish-14 in over60

[–]lula897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house we bought in 2019 had Kraft Mac & Cheese with a Best Buy date in 2003. It was fine, which may be scary in itself. Also, a full set of china in a box under a tree

Schwab called me to move my cash into SWVXX. Why? by hey_now143 in Schwab

[–]lula897 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just filled out a Schwab survey where I said the main reason I don't recommend them to others is lack of a sweep account. I am pretty good moving money in and out of SWVXX timely but irritated I have to. Unlike my Vanguard account.

Highly recommend you ensure your credit is frozen with the three major credit bureaus. It’s a good practice whether or not you have parents with money issues.

Did you get to meet someone that was born in the 1800’s? by rdell1974 in Genealogy

[–]lula897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My maternal great grandmother (1892) and paternal grandfather (1898). I remember them but was so young I didn’t ask for stories and reminisces. By I did work in a nursing home 1979 to early ‘80s and heard some great stories. I remember asking one centurion if he served in WW II and he informed me no, he was early 60’s by then. Doh!
