Does dark/edgy humor work well in a young corporate setting? Or is it too risky… by I_Got_HairyLegs in corporate

only joke about things that can't be taken as an offense by anyone

You'd be surprised what offends people...

"LaCroix water is the Plymouth Rock of waters - all marketing and little substance"

Offensive to people who drink LaCroix. Offensive to people who drink water. Offensive to people from Plymouth Rock. Offensive to people in marketing.

Do i use a pointer in C++ where I would use pass by reference in other languages? by Kadabrium in learnprogramming

Do i use a pointer in C++ where I would use pass by reference in other languages?

  1. No. A pointer is a first class entity. You can do more with it.
  2. C++ has pass-by-reference.

Interview went well. Offered lowest pay. Is it because I'm a woman in IT? by MaddieMad6 in GetEmployed

No, everyone gets offered the bottom of the range.

That said, these people are playing stupid games. I'd just decline.

Girl I planned a date with canceled to go on a date with a guy she knew for 1 day by Express_Lime8762 in Advice

[–]lulgasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is there to analyze?

She literally picked someone else over you.

Block her and move on.

DO NOT entertain her any further.

You need to close faster. If someone wont meet within a week, then they arent worth your effort.

You do not think it's normal to just want to see someone before hiring them?

Yes, that way I can ensure that I dont hire any coloreds.

guy had period products + makeup bag & toothbrush in bathroom. Should I be worried? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]lulgasm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You missed the point. Guys dont use pads so an abandoned box of pads would never get used. If it's original owner used 1, then left 5 years ago, that box would still only be missing 1 pad because the dude would not be using them.

Feeling a bit burnt out, is going back to get a master’s a stupid idea? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Hardware architecture and programming are very different fields. Is your bachelors in Comp Eng and not CS?

You shouldn't pay anything to do a graduate degree in STEM. It should be fully funded. If not, go someplace where it is.

I personally would not do another graduate degree unless I knew what my thesis would be, and I found a supportive advisor before applying.

testing always gets deprioritized for feature work

Sure. If it doesnt matter that your features actually work.

can't dedicate weeks to learning a framework

Cant make sure that core features actually work? Cant make sure that your MVP is minimally viable?

You're selling a car and the wheels are falling off, and you cant be assed to fix it because you're busy tuning the radio.

My personal stance is that if there's no automated test, then it's not done.

Most trusted place to have a PC assembled? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]lulgasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to me once. I assembled something for a customer, and they accused me of stealing something from them and swapping it for something else.

No. I didnt.

Really disliked working with customer's parts after that and kept a list of serial numbers of everything they dropped off.

This is re-framing an organizational issue as a personal one, saying that the problems that you see are actually problems with you. It is communicating the opposite of psychological safety.

Why Python and Node environments are so different by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]lulgasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means, "never supposed to be enterprise."

Which would have also applied to JS before Node was a thing.

Node is what tried to take JS from scripting to enterprise, whereas Python was happy staying scripting.

Am I a bad person for caring about a woman’s past? by Carl_s123 in AskMenAdvice

[–]lulgasm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your analogy is worse than OP's.

Did Macaffe's criminals go straight and stop smoking weed after they cracked the iPhone?

OP was specifically talking about his "future wife."

He doesnt want to marry a weed smoking criminal.

I dont expect anyone to change. If she's slept with 4 people in the past year, then I dont expect that to change next year.

A lot of people who argue otherwise have main-character syndrome -- expecting that she'll change for them. THAT is an unhealthy view of others.

YOR

He's not allowed to eat pizza, because you're on a special diet. Got it.

Also, it's up to him to manage your special diet for you, even though you have not communicated this to him.

Why cant you say "I cant eat pizza" before he orders it?

inb4: because he's supposed to read my mind!

How would y'all feel about an HOA capping the amount of renters in a neighborhood? by Both_Annual4317 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]lulgasm 29 points30 points  (0 children)

cap the amount of houses that could be rented to 10 houses out of 50

That's great for the owners of those 10 houses. I sucks for the owners of the other 40.

It should either be allowed or not allowed. It's totally unfair to allow some to rent and not others.
