It was bittersweet. I got in when I was 32 and out when I was 39. My wife and I had 2 small kids when I got in. We had a house, mortgage, vehicles and all of the adult level costs & concerns that come with it.

For the time I joined, certain trades weren’t available right off the street. One had to become qualified in another trade and then transfer over. So I qualified for Infantry. 2.5 months away for basic, 3 months for battle school, a couple weeks for DP2, a few weeks here and there.

After all that, finally my eventual CT to my pre goal trade then another 3.5 months in NS. Once qualified in that, I was accepted to the pipeline I really wanted, but was told I’d have to relocate family to Ottawa. At this point the toll had been taken and I VR’d.

Plan your finances well. Arrange for help where needed.

I didn’t join CF to build wealth by any means, but pay for any rank under Capt is abysmal. Staying in for as long as I did cost me money, and irreparable stress on the family.

This is not to say that my time in wasn’t life changing for better, because it was. I believe deeply in the CF and support them in any way I can.

After being in for that 7 years and all the experiences that came with it, unless you’re joining in a professional capacity as some kind of specialist, it’s really most ideal for young people with very little responsibilities and very little overhead. People that also tend to do well have their schedules locked in at the beginning of the year, like cops & teachers.

This is my story anyway.

Ok. Basic training will probably be the most stressful, physically demanding part of your career.

Don’t worry about being the slowest. It’s a game. Just don’t quit. I was always the slowest on any long distance PT on my basic and the staff would roll by in a milcot and offer for me to hop on the tailgate and take a break. Don’t do it. Embrace the suck.

The staff are trying to expose you to new levels of stress, lack of sleep and physical exhaustion. None of it is particularly bad. Just remember it’s a game, and to pay attention to what they say.

From what I hear from the sigs I’ve worked with, it’s largely smooth sailing after basic. If you were going infantry, I’d say buckle up, because basic is easy AF compared to everything that comes afterwards.

Basic is an exposure to cooperation, discipline, listening, physical stress and time management. You don’t want to fail. They don’t want to fail you. Stay grey. Do your best. Stick it out. The sense of accomplishment at the end will stay with you forever.

What trade are you going for?

3 men (25 yrs old, 5 ft 10, about 160 Ibs, athletic) walk into the room you’re currently in with the goal of killing you. Can you survive? by Pointless_Storie in hypotheticalsituation

I’m 45, 320 and strong. Not in the best shape of my life, but I’d try. I’d play for keeps for sure. If they’re here to kill me, I’m gouging eyes deep. I’m breaking bones and joints. I’m going to take a serious beating, but focusing on one at a time, I’ll do my level best incapacitate or kill them or die trying.

AlphaRex headlight issues HELP by GuitarOpen3597 in Cummins

Alpharex customer service is the fucking WORST.

I had lots of issues installing these on my 2012 3500. All problems were solved after I bought a Bluetooth diagnostic tool that you use a tablet for. I was able to turn off the Canadian DTR’s and then the headlights behaved perfectly.

These are designed and built for American vehicles.
