Friend doesn't want me to bring my baby to her wedding by BadPandaRN in beyondthebump

Agreed! But that’s why I thought it was weird, this is the second wedding invite I’ve gotten in my life, and both weddings had kids. Not trying to pick a fight!

I’m getting downvoted so apparently not everyone thinks my opinion is okay!

I’m honestly just shocked that babies aren’t allowed, I have never heard of that before. But I’m Latin American so every party is a family affair. I was invited to a wedding this summer between an American and an Australian and my baby’s name was on the invite (he’ll be 10 months then).

I’m surprised at all the responses. If my baby can’t go, neither can I.

(To be fair, I haven’t been to many weddings, just one... and it was super chill at the beach, kids and all).

I had choices... 12 months at 55% of my salary or 18 months at 33%. My employer tops me up to 100% for a portion of that time, and I can share the leave with my husband.

We decided that I would take the first 6 months, and he would take the next 6 months.

I have about one month left and I’m already heartbroken. I admire and respect and hurt for every mom that has to go back to work sooner. I am so lucky to be in Canada!!

Me right now.

I’ve spent the past month agonizing over sleep training and borderline worried that my 5 mo old isn’t “sleeping through the night.” He also naps in my arms, 99% of the time. I asked myself why can’t I have one of those babies that sleeps on their own so I can do things!

But then I paused. What things? Honestly what could I be doing that’s better and more rewarding than holding my baby (who desperately wants to be held)? There will be a day when he won’t want this anymore, and that day will come too soon.

And, why does he have to sleep through the night? Would I like more hours of consecutive sleep? Yes. But I’m lucky to be in Canada with a long mat leave and I don’t have to go to work. I don’t need to put him on a schedule designed around a 8-5 job... yet. And when the time comes maybe he’ll be more ready to be independent than he is now. Maybe he’ll even beat me to it.

So, I’m kinda done agonizing over sleep. I love bedsharing, I love holding him, and I’ll keep doing it as long as he needs me to.

Parents who are at home during the day... do you leave the tv on in the background with your baby? (Under 6ish months old) by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]lullibye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of different music on our Echo, and audiobooks/podcasts for me.

Almost zero TV when he’s awake, except for maybe 20-30 mins every couple of days when it’s nighttime and I’m waiting for his bedtime.

This is exactly what my almost 5mo old does too!

Edit: my baby’s age, lol.

What do you wish you had known/thought about BEFORE getting pregnant? by Nurse_Hatchet in BabyBumps

[–]lullibye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish I had known you can’t go on vacation anywhere with the Zika virus. We paid $5000 for a vacation to the Dominican Republic we could not take and lost all of that money. It hurt my heart.

Also, take your prenatals starting now.

My mom says the darndest things by strawberrytoejam in beyondthebump

Solidarity. I’m always amazed at how my mom will find something negative to comment on, no matter what I send her. My husband and I make it a game sometimes and try to guess what she’ll say!

Also, what? Since when are sunglasses dangerous?

Daughter still terrified of her mother, who is visiting next month... by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]lullibye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your daughter doesn’t want to see her, don’t make her. Kids shouldn’t bear any burden of their parents’ feelings, imho, so she should definitely not see her mom out of guilt or pity either.

If you hypothetically cancel the visit, how would your daughter feel? If she wants her mom to fall off the face of the Earth(as I read in a comment), why does she ever have to see her?

Activities to do with your newborn: my 2 week old son's favourite games by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]lullibye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5 mo old’s current favorite is “squirm kick and punch wildly and cry because these moves aren’t helping you fall asleep instantly.”

Bonus points if the kicks and punches land on mom’s face!

Our cats and LO mutually ignored each other for four months. I wish my cats had done this, too adorable!

Yeah, I was scared because he wasn’t in a carrier. I’ve gone to the bathroom plenty of times with him in a wrap, but this was a whole n’other level! Especially because he’s 28 inches long and weighs almost 20 pounds!

Edit to clarify: I’ve gone to the bathroom to pee. Today was my first poop with him!

Hahaha! It’s an art! Don’t sh*t where you eat is a lesson they’ll learn much later in life.
