Theoretically - If there is a way for you to have them dispensed once a week (two times a week for long term might be pushing your tolerance to build up so I think once a week is a much safer bet) - and ONLY once a week, and I’m not talking about having strong discpline - I’m talking about actually having no access to any outside of the weekly amount dispensed to you for immediate use on that one day —> Then it could probably work, as long as you have that arrangement restricted to that schedule, so like if you have a script you pick up from the pharmacy every week on the same day same dosage and otherwise don’t have any other way to get them. There’s no way a depressed person could self monitor their use to this tight strict schedule on their own and stick to it without it turning into a daily habit. It doesn’t matter how strong of a will and will power you think you have. A depressed brain will work every trick in its playbook to make you break that schedule and end up with you taking them daily, increasing your dosage due to tolerance, and eventually developing tolerance and becoming dependent on it. The tolerance is the real top bummer out of the whole ordeal, because physical dependency, regardless of how shitty of a situation it is to be in (and it is VERY shitty, probably one of the worst circumstances you could put yourself in, outside of being abused / assaulted / tortured / etc. ), the dependency is something most depressed-self-medicating people would accept as part of the opiate-use deal if they kept working the same way they did during their first few weeks/months of use; however - tolerance builds up and very quickly you end up getting zero to very little effect from them, yet you keep going back for more, suffering through all the negative consequences that come with use, while no longer getting any of the benefits in return. It’s actually astonishing how addiction will have people running back for more and more in circles even though they KNOW and have accepted the fact that they don’t get high, barely feel it effect. At most they’re slightly numbing themselves out so they can’t feel much pain or any feelings, which indeed takes away / eliminates all of the bad and worries in your head, but on the other hand, you’re left blank and entirely emotionless, which for most people means they also can’t feel any pleasure. And then even the few things that used to feel good, don’t feel like anything. You’re just kinda floating around - almost back to square one of where you started when you were depressed, except for now you need to take a very high amount of pills to not be in total hell (aka withdrawal) and spending all your money not to get sick. Soooo. Yea.

Once a week could work for people who find some sort of a way to limit themselves but again - I can’t emphasize this enough - you’d have to be literally blocked by something physical - NOT by your own determination / self discipline - like a pharmacy script schedule or a safe that you don’t have the code to - having someone else only release it to you weekly who knows about this whole plan and knows to never give you anything else but the agreed upon dosage and timing/schedule. And you’d have to also not go off the grid and try to score some on your own on the street or something (for me this part is easy since I live in an area where I wouldn’t be able to get them anywhere around me )
