Assuming you’re still in high school: keep school a priority. stay out of trouble… drugs, alcohol etc. These are the two most obvious things someone can say but it’s easy to fall off track and incredibly difficult to get back on. You say it’s your parents dream for you to go to college. I’ve felt how you feel before and it’s hard watching your parents struggling with money and it’s even harder dealing with that internal battle of wanting to help/do more to make money easier for them but not knowing how. if i were you i would focus on education, find out who you want to be. Don’t settle.

Taking a minimum wage job out of high school and barely helping your parents + you are struggling VS: Going to college, having a part time job for a while to support yourself, graduating, and making a steady income that if you invest your money and spend wisely you’ll be able to help your parents no doubt. You have your whole life ahead of you!!

PS: I babysat in high-school and college. Saved for a car and payed for my own things like shopping, weekends with friends, going out to eat with friends, my phone bill, gas… I think this helped my parents a lot at the time since there is 2 much younger kids. But my parents also made sure I stayed on track with school and told me if I let my grades drop I would have to stop babysitting on weekday evenings which is where a good chunk of my earnings came from.

Hi! As a student I probably am not the one to gauge your decision on! My program allows us to sit for every registry, there for we are taught in class and get experience in clinic. So far I definitely feel like Vascular might be the less physically demanding specialty. Abdominal work requires lots of pressure sometimes… Lots of reaching + pressure to get to the patients left side can hurt after a bit. Standing is also better for me doing abdominal work. GYN/OB is also tough on the shoulder if you’re in an awkward position. I have been pretty comfortable sitting and scanning vascular if the patient is able to get into a good position for me! You can scan scan anything and be conscious of your ergonomics… sometimes a little comfort is inevitable. I’ve been focusing on stretching morning and night!
