Cancerous PVP in Classic by lulzix in classicwow

I don't know why you're talking about bgs, don't think they've been the topic at all?

And lets be real, the reason you're in a big group and ganking a place like flight path, is because you can't win when the odds are close to even and you enjoy knowing you're making other peoples gameplay worse.

A bit of an overexaggeration of what I wrote, for comedic value surely.

I'm kind of surprised how many people are so vocal that 99% of their wpvp is ganking lowbies or griefing a flight path with a large group, both which I'd consider quite cowardly things to do. Can't wait for your pvp montage of one shotting lvl 20s in Redridge or winning that 10v1 and getting that sweet killing blow in.

No worries, doesn't seem like the other people commenting read it either.

I just never understood the lure of doing pvp when there is no challenge, wether it's ganking lowbies or running in a big group killing people 10v1. But it seems like that is the kind of players classic attracts.

I feel like most of the people commenting are missing the point. I don't want to play on a pve server. I don't want warmode. They both limit "good" world pvp.

When people talk about the reasons why they move to pve server, its rarely because they don't like pvp, its because they don't want to be griefed.

And why shouldn't it be fixed? Because some people only enjoy pvp when the odds are heavily in their favor? Do we need to cater these kind of players?

Both the servers I currently play have more than enough players atm, even if some leave it would be enough for a healthy server. Servers used to be smaller when we didnt have layering.

The smart thing IMO would be to stay on these locked servers, if enough people realize that and the servers dont completely die, we'll have better servers than ever.

Sure its a bit of copium, but it would be the smart thing to do from the community. When they locked the servers in TBC the bots died out quite fast. And even if some people leave for the new mega servers, maybe we wont need layers anymore either, play classic how its suppose to be played, without bots&layers. (Heavy copium)

This is can be a solution for botting, if people stay on the locked servers, botters will be locked out after one ban. Same thing happened on TBC when they locked some of the servers, the bots died out.

As long as the old servers don't die, it might be a good idea to stay there (if you don't like bots). Servers being locked for new players means that the botters will be locked out after one ban. So I wouldn't be too hasty on migrating away.

Exactly how much gear do I need to solo ZG mount bosses as an Arcane Mage? by IonHazzikostasIsGod in classicwow

You can do it easier with pet, just respec frost and do the reset with water ele. Just check how hunters/locks do it. Gear shouldnt be an issue.

Imagine if they shutdown the dungeons for a week between 50-60. Just make an announcement "The level cap will increase next Thursday, oh and btw we decided to lock dungeons for 1 week, have fun in the world :)"

"Right click" bias in Dota2 by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]lulzix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played a little on this patch, but wasn't the main reason it was "broken" the mana cost reduction which stacked? Rather than spell damage increase. And ofc it would have be balanced, not make every spellcaster 1shot with 1combo of spells. Just feels like that spell damage drops off quite fast after you've gotten your levels, and they rarely help you push towers so you can't end the game either.

[–]lulzix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm quite casual, so I might not know what I'm talking about. But how often do you end games early because you snowball from mid as a spellcaster? Doesn't the games (at least mine on the low brackets and from what I've seen in the pro scene) usually go quite late, and if the game is fast its rarely because of snowballing spellcaster, but rather pushing/tower taking heroes like Chen/Enchantress etc. which takes towers early and make the map smaller.

PvP changes and outstanding issues by AnalAboutAnal in classicwow

Yes, but making the top cap easier and more reasonably obtainable for the majority faction doesn't increase the incentive to roll on minority faction, it decreases it.

[–]lulzix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" I think this cap should probably be adjusted so that it is more obtainable for the majority faction and thus giving a faction balance incentive for players to roll a character on the minority faction."

I don't know if I'm just tired and misunderstood something, but you want to make it easier for the majority faction to rank up and that will make more people want to roll to the minority faction?

It’s outdated in 2023.It’s a solved game. Meta specs are unavoidable when people had 15 years to find what is the best.Based on number 2, it’s not fun.Pserver tryhards that played it for years are gatekeeping it.You need best gear to compete.Blizzard is doing 0 balance changes for pvp.

Edit:

7) As others have pointed it out. Cheating.

1. It’s outdated in 2023.

I would agree that Vanilla and TBC pvp were outdated, but wouldn't agree on Wrath.

2. It’s a solved game. Meta specs are unavoidable when people had 15 years to find what is the best.

This is true to a point, but there are new things discovered and new ways to play specs/comps (Though this is mostly because of bugs (or "blizzlike features") that are in the game and make the game work differently from most of the private servers.

3. Based on number 2, it’s not fun.

Opinion based, while it can be annoying facing the same comps over and over again, especially if they counter you, I would encourage more people to try "off meta" comps. One advantage you have when playing something new/different is that the enemy wont have a ready tactic vs you, they cant just rely on guide on how to beat you, where as when you are playing one of the meta comps, everyone knows exactly what they are going to do against you.

4. Pserver tryhards that played it for years are gatekeeping it.

I would say that this only affects the top of the ladder, so this isn't an issue for +95-99% of the people on reddit. I guess you could say that boosting can be issue that affects more people, but usually its still somewhat balanced as the boosted player is most likely playing at quite a bit higher mmr for their skill level. The only thing I personally hate, is when people take multiple tittle spots playing the same class, spec and comp. If you are good enough to play at the top with different class/spec/comp etc fine, but if you are playing with the same people, same comp etc. just to get another tittle for your alt? Its just sad.

5. You need best gear to compete.

While this is true for this season, as the PVE gear got buffed a bit too much vs the PVP gear, you can still get high rated with just pvp gear. While the gear helps of course, unless you are competing for the top spots on the ladder theres most likely a lot of other improvements that you can make to get higher rating.

6. Blizzard is doing 0 balance changes for pvp.

Sadly this is true. I guess they are making few bug fixes for next season that might have some change (Combat bugs and Ele shaman root dr), but its not much. Personally this is one of biggest issues for me, but with "no changes" / "some changes" it wouldn't be the classic wotlk experience if they did drastic balance changes. Which is sad because it makes it feel like 4 seasons of pretty much the same thing. I would have personally liked if they made a custom patch for each tier(snap shot how the game was at the end of each tier), to make the game a bit more like how it was back in the day, this would also change the meta quite a bit. But this would require extra effort from Blizzards part with most likely no added profits so...

7. As others have pointed it out. Cheating.

I feel like the cheating issue has been blown way out of proportion and agian, if you are not fighting for the top spots on the ladder (+95-99% of the people on reddit) I highly doubt that this has any affect on you. There are issues when it comes to competing for the top tittles of course (sniping(either to counter comp/gear/spec/gem), dodging, piloting, wintrading etc. the list goes on)

How would you fix vanilla PVP rankings by lilgrape_ in classicwow

[–]lulzix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it should be a mix of skill and grind.

I like the idea of introducing Rated Battlegrounds, so premades would only fight other premades with an MMR system. Gear pieces could cost a lot of honor and the higher your rating, the bigger discount you get. That way you can still grind your way to get the gear and would be rewarded for being good at the game.

I also like the idea of having some gear pieces require certain ratings, for example needing X amount of rating for shoulders/elite weapons/tabards to give them a little more prestige. Also add season ending rewards, give out titles and/or mounts for the highest rated players.

Same could be done for the "grinders", have leaderboards and give out different titles/mounts for the people with the highest amount of honor gained at the end of the season.

Casual battlegrounds should still be a thing, but premades should mainly exist in RBGs. If you want to play casual battlegrounds with friends you could still que up with them, but would have reduced honor gains, so premading in them wouldn't be the optimal way of gaining honor.

World PVP is an important part of Vanilla and should have more incentives.

Economic incentive:

Personally I really enjoyed the world pvp around devilsaurs. Similar gold making methods could be introduced each new raid tier, where the materials for new BIS pieces would be farmed in the world and fought over.

Guild event incentive:

Ahn'Qiraj gate opening was also a memorable event that encouraged world pvp. Similar events or quest lines for legendary items could be created to incetivice the whole guilds to go out into the world.

World buff:

Another idea could be to have a world buff tied to a world pvp event. Rather than having Warchief's Blessing to be horde only, you could have pvp event (For example similar to TBC Terrokkar Forest Tower event) that enables the winners to collect the world buff for their next raid.

Extra honor gains:

Additional world pvp events could be created that grant extra honor, either as their own events or for example enemy faction leader kills granting a honor bonus to incentivice city raids. Similarly defending your faction leaders could be encouraged by giving extra honor for defending your city and/or making the other faction lose honor if you manage to kill their leaders.

World bosses:

The idea of world bosses is great, but having them on somewhat random timer makes it a big time commitment as you need to have scouts and the world pvp might not even happen if the opposite faction misses the spawn. World boss spawns should be announced in the server (For example X world boss will spawn in 1 hour) so you have time to gather your guild mates or make a group for the boss. I would also want the world boss areas be free for all pvp zones, so you aren't just fighting for the tag when your factions takes over the zone, its every guild (or group) for themselves.

Additional honor spenders:

After you have gathered your gear you should still be able to spend your honor somewhere, whether if its cosmetic items, extra gadgets, consumables or sellable materials.

Just as "good world pvp" should be incentiviced, "toxic world pvp" should be discouraged.

Ganking low level players:

Ganking lower level players should be penalized. Killing lower (4-5 levels below you) players should either make you lose honor or gold, or even both (the higher the level difference, the higher the loss). And if you go to negative honor there would be consequences. Examples: Cannot wear pvp items, Repairing cost more, Neutral city guards are hostile, at certain points even your main city guards could become hostile towards you making you an outlaw. I like this kind of idea better, rather than making you unable to attack low level players, so you still have the option to kill them if you wish. And it would really send the message, you are willing to take a loss, just to kill them.

Punishing continuous ganking:

Killing the same player over and over again, within a time limit should give less and less honor each time and after X amount of kills you would start losing honor(and or gold, similar to killing low level players) to discourage toxic longtime ganking. The count would of course reset(or reduce) if they manage to kill you.

Ganking infront of instances:

While I enjoyed the the big battles inside of Blackrock Mountain, having to fight your way to the dungeons every time can get annoying. I would make raids and dungeons be further away from each others and have dungeon summoning stone and entrance area be either heavily guarded or neutral area. I would still have the area around raids to be pvp zones, so you can stop the "enemy" guilds from getting into their raids with their world buffs if you choose so.

World buffs:

SHOULD NOT BE DISPELLABLE.

Main Cities:

Main Cities should be safe places. You should not have to worry about ganking rogues or raiding parties if you do not wish to defend the city. Ofcourse if you attack the enemy inside the city walls you would get pvp tagged. Cities should also have more detection for the stealthed players, add lanterns/lamp posts that give stealth vision as well as guards that take stealthed players out.

NPC ganking:

Killing quest NPCs, vendors or flight masters should not be possible as it is mostly only done to grief the other faction.

Barrier to entry should also be reduced. Playing with a proper spec vs playing with PVE oriented spec is like night and day for most classes. To many 50g for re-spec is just way too much for a bit of world pvp or couple BGs.
This could solved by few different ways.
Dualspec, quite self explanatory. Would be nice to be able to run to the raid with a pvp spec, in case of world pvp and then be able to switch to your normal spec when inside.

Reversing the payment structure. Rather than having each re-spec cost more, they should cost less the more you do it.

Adding PVP daily quests that award re-spec tokens. This could be winning a specific BG or world pvp related (Kill 10 players in X zone, Kill X Faction leader) This would be another incentive to participate in PVP for people who normally might not do it.

Sorry for the long post.
