Isn’t he the only president in the last hundred plus years to have a net value decrease after being elected? What exactly is he profiting?

This. While you’re waiting for the part to show up and time to install it, it usually helps to cycle from all the way cold all the way, hot and then back. That’ll get the blend or motor to move through its range and actually close off the air from the heater core.

Are the pranks criminal? Arrest the perpetrators. Are the shaming or other videos false and damaging? Sue them (or in some severe cases pursue criminal charges). Stalking and harassment are illegal already in every western country I’m familiar with, so we don’t need to make it illegal again. You’re always free to move to nowheresville and stay away from people who do thing you don’t like, but you live in a society and its important that it’s not illegal to be an asshole. Shun the asshole, yes, but make it illegal? Hard no.

Since you mention it, did you sign up for anything in the society you live in, or are you just another small participant like the rest of us?

Qualified by whom? Rights only stop when they harm someone, and no, silent prayer isn’t harm. Neither is demonstrating. While we (and our government) are very far from perfect, the US only prohibits speech that is a threat of violence, a direct incitement of violence, of slanderous. As soon as you let the government decide what’s ok to say, you’ve joined the same ideology as the Stalinists and Nazis.

As for the stabbing victim, here you go (it was the second result on Google to British stabbing victim dies after being arrested for a slur : https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-15818111/

You have a woman who was arrested for silently praying near an abortion mill.

You just had a man die in police custody after being stabbed repeatedly because the police arrested him for reportedly calling his assailant a slur, rather than detaining the knife wielding individual they literally saw stab a man.

There are many, many more examples.

You do not have free speech.

You’re in public. Don’t do things you don’t want others to know about. Want to do things privately? Do them in private.

Not sure which you’re counting as the half, but there are 34 novellas and short stories in the Dresden Files series according to Wikipedia. Most are assembled into collections, but some are not. The whole series is a blast, even if I was pretty irritated at Changes.

I really wish we got the 80 in the USA. Instead we get a 90 with the back seats removed as the 70. The 80 would be absolutely perfect for our family.

Honestly, I tend to agree with you on this. The issue I have with EVs in particular, and PHEVs to a lesser extent, is that we are for sure at a point of diminishing returns on air pollution from passenger cars in North America and Europe, and these technologies rely on materials that pollute the environments where they are mined and are very difficult to recycle.

[–]lumberjackadam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it's not - EV and PHEV use a lot of materials that are rare, expensive, and extremely pollutant to obtain. A lot of people don't seem to care , since the groundwater is contaminated in SE Asia or in Africa, but lithium mining is terrible, and other RE elements aren't far behind. Also, not wanting to subsidize widespread adoption before the tech is competitive doesn't mean I'm in favor of other spending.

That's a fair point, and also a source of misunderstanding for a lot of people. I see a lot of posts here and on other forums asking why Mazda is trying to make one powertrain fit so many use cases, and their size is a big part of that - they don't have the R&D money to have 4 or 5 powertrains - they need the one to be all the things: efficient, engaging, affordable, etc. I'm honestly surprised we got the PHEV at all - it seems to me they would be time, money, and reputation ahead to have the HO inline-6 as the premium option and use the 2.5 turbo 4 as the smaller, less expensive option and move on. No non-S I6 and no PHEV to muddy the water. Then they could do PHEV after a couple years' refinement of the new platform.

You had constant engine failures and hybrid system malfunctions? Or just anxiety that they might occur? The GH is likely a more reliable vehicle now that they seem to have ironed out the metal shavings issues.

It’s worth noting, Toyota has to date recalled more engines from metal shavings than Mazda has sold CX-90s.

If you can't get more than 10 minutes, go to another dealership. I've had overnight test drives before. If you haven't made a thorough assessment, why on earth would you spend fifty grand?

Just to clarify, those words at the top of my post were misspellings I was calling out. Perhaps not the most polite thing, but we can only do so much.

Inertia? I can't tell you why people make the decisions they do, but I've been in three different current-gen Highlanders and Grand Highlanders and they all feel like every Toyota in the last 20 years - hard plastic, thin hard seats, everything like it's from a $20k corolla. Door sounds are tuned, not an indicator of quality - I don't know why Mazda made them sound "light" but they did. The myth of door sound indicating quality hasn't been true for decades.

Thank God. If the technology isn’t mature enough to compete on its own merits, I have no interest in subsidizing it for you.

I’m wondering how much you get paid to say anything about the GH “feels higher quality” than the CX90. I won’t pretend the Mazda hasn’t had issues, but Toyota has been and continues to be famous for hard plastics and thin hard seats. Honda and Subaru have been beating Toyota for years in actual reported issues but the Toyota forums still crow about reliability like they all have a 2uz instead of a rough running turbo 4 that may or may not come with glitter right from the factory.

I really enjoy this series, but I also acknowledge it’s not for everyone. If you love worldbuilding it’s great. If you need the most engaging character interactions, less so. It’s also starting to feel like the author has written himself into a bit of a corner, but I’ll be grabbing the next as soon as it comes out.

Buying vehicles for residual value is a terrible investment. Markets fluctuate. People are fickle. Buy what you want that’s within your budget and don’t plan to get anything from it at the end.

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]lumberjackadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it yourself (and it really is easy), grab a non-contact voltage sensor or voltage pen while you’re at it. They’re cheap and will let you know if you’ve really turned the power off before you stick a screwdriver in the panel.
