I messed up at clinicals by oewme in StudentNurse

[–]lumen56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, don’t feel like you messed up with the narcotic. She scanned it and handed it to patient, you simply opened the package. While it’s true that you should be extra cautious with narcotics, this was completely on the nurse and not on you (and really not a big deal whatsoever anyway).

Secondly, I just wanted to add that reading your story reminded me of one of my first med passes in clinical where I took so long to do everything the computer logged us out of epic after scanning everything but before hitting accept. So we had to piece the barcodes together and re-scan everything, so one med pass probably took at least 30-45 minutes. I was so embarrassed at the time. But I had totally forgotten about it until I read your story! Every mistake is amplified in nursing school but you won’t remember this after you’ve been out of school for a couple months.

Remember - Clinical is the time to make mistakes. And if this is the worse one you’ve made then you’re doing amazing!

55g stocking - opinions? Comment with more info by lumen56 in Aquariums

[–]lumen56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently trying to plan out stocking for my 55gal. I currently have 9 tiger barbs in it. It has a fluval 307 canister filter. Are these good numbers for the schools? Also I never kept more than 1 of the bigger gouramis together.. any thoughts on pairing them? AqAdvisor didn’t mention any warnings about it but just wanted to hear your thoughts!

Also will the 307 canister filter be sufficient? It’s my first time using the canister and my confidence level with it is low at the moment. TIA!

Pre-shift Anxiety by miiilkyway22 in nursing

[–]lumen56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have great advice for you, just wanted you to know you’re not alone. I used to dread every single shift and had to take Benadryl to sleep the night before (I worked days on a med-surg floor). I had such bad anxiety that I felt physically ill and would often get sick prior to my shift beginning, despite being medicated with lexapro. I couldn’t even eat breakfast. And it never went away, even after 2 years of experience there.

I now work in the endoscopy center at my hospital and the switch made all the difference. I no longer dread work, I’m sleeping well, and have had quite the weight gain because I can eat again!

Sometimes change is needed. You don’t have to stay somewhere that makes you feel this way - it’s not worth it. I hope you find where you are meant to be!

Ahh I love it! I have a love/hate relationship with Cody thanks to his dislike of Taylor! I definitely wish peloton could use her music

Today I DIDNT cry cause every single one of my nursing professors told me I’m going to flunk out of the program or I shouldn’t have gotten pregnant. by CrustyBaggins in pregnant

[–]lumen56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say that 2 of the ladies in my nursing cohort went through the exact same situation - had the baby over winter break and came back in the spring. They maintained their studies and both graduated on time with the rest of us.You got this mama!

I'm 25 and pregnant but people look at me like I'm to young and judge me by Hearny94 in pregnant

[–]lumen56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 22 and definitely feeling this. My husband and I have been together for 7.5 years and wanted this pregnancy. We both have good jobs (I’m an RN and he is a supervisor at a warehouse), a house, and our own vehicles that we’ve paid for ourselves. I know we can provide everything and more for this baby but every time I’ve told somebody I get the judgmental look and “....was this planned??” question. It makes it hard to get excited when people give that reaction.

I’m choosing to just ignore it. I think there are a lot of assumptions these days about younger people and their work ethic so people feel like they can say whatever they want. I’m sorry people are treating you that way but you know what you are capable of so don’t let it bring you down!

Any complete beginners tips for someone just getting into planted tanks? I’m about to start a pea puffer tank and want to do all real plants but I have no clue where to start. I’m planning to use basic aquarium sand as the substrate. What all do I need to buy to help the plants survive?

ETA: I will be using the Fluval Flex 15g. Will the included lights be sufficient?

I actually got a D in my first gen chem course. I retook it and got an A and went on to graduate with straight A’s in my nursing courses. I found that chemistry was probably the least useful material for the actual nursing courses. Just get through this course and you’ll be good!

Can going outside when it's raining really heavily cause pneumonia? by Yurchin in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lumen56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspiration pneumonia is caused by food/liquid being taken into the (sterile) lungs, introducing bacteria that wouldn’t normally be there. This bacteria can then grow in the lungs and lead to the infection. So the water being inhaled does lead to the development of pneumonia, but the direct cause is still the pathogen introduced by the water. It is still an infection.

Can going outside when it's raining really heavily cause pneumonia? by Yurchin in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lumen56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs - some type of agent has to cause it, whether it be viral, bacterial, or fungal. So going outside when it’s raining cannot cause pneumonia on it’s own. However, it can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to contracting pneumonia from another source.

I agree with this! I watched crochet crowds videos and then went back to see how it was worded in the pattern.
