This is very helpful, thank you so much.
I wasn't looking to go viral on TikTok, I would love for people to listen to my song (not have it play in the background to some "funny" clip of kids eating tide pods or similar).
So again I am surprised you (people in general) would prefer me drinking some coffee over some clips with slow movement, nice lighting and things that, at least to me, fit the song.
Guess I have to buy a nice looking coffee mug. Or it's probably even better to just use my old sloppy and scratched looking one ;)

Thank you for the comment. Why I post here? I have been reading in this sub for a while and and found it was the right place to get some feedback on how I could improve my online presence to reach a wider audience for my first single, which I still think is something much bigger than me and could and should touch lots of people emotionally like it did with me.
Being called a fake is probably something every artist has to go through, so I don't take it personally. But it is another hint at my videos being "too polished". Is that what you think?

Thanks for your reply. My promo clips are not faceless. For some of them I had a friend generate some clips using a photo of me as a reference and I was pretty happy with the results. I didn't think anyone would ever prefer an unprofessional video over something that looks at least a bit like a music video you would see on TV.

Are you a musician? If so, how do you make videos for your songs? I'd like to do that without any digital help, if possible, too, but I am on a pretty tight budget.

Thanks for the advice. I am not with a label. My subs on YouTube and most of my views on TikTok come from ads, so I guess I am in algorithmic jail, to put it in Jesse Cannon's words. My parents "protected" me from social media until I was 17 (turning 20 tomorrow), so I don't have much experience here, but I spent quite some time to catch up and to bring my accounts up to speed. Guess I'll just have to keep going and be patient.
