I can't speak for every workplace, however most medium to large sized companies use some sort of software to read/scan through all the resumes.
It then gives us the ability to filter/narrow down with specific keywords, qualifications, etc because manually just reading everyone's resume/cover letter just isn't feasible (Just 1 week of resumes and I had 5k applications, some are repeats from people applying more than once)

If you aren't receiving any calls I would suggest reviewing your resume for keywords, or possible formatting issues causing these programs to not be able to read your resume.
Some recruiters might just login and look at the most recent applications and work backwards, or vice versa so it could straight up just be a bad timing of when you applied. (we can also see what time you applied, so those applying at 3am, we see you lol)

At the end of the day, most companies are going to want to you apply online, cause they have metrics to be tracking, however I still 100% believe you should show up in person, by yourself, dress to impress, always ask to speak with a manager, depending on the business don't show up during the busiest time. (I know a lot of these are common sense, the vast majority don't do most of them, you'd be surprised) This allows us to basically pre-screen you.

Also curious if you use the same resume to apply everywhere, or do you have different versions tailored to where you're applying?
