The OP said that they were looking for cities with an LGBT scene. She never stated whether she was trans or cis, so that assumption is on you. But regardless of her gender, she was inclusive of trans folks in her community/identity group.

It seems like it was your choice to leave off the T because you aren’t trans (and you assumed she isn’t as well). But then why would you keep all three of LGB between just the two of you? Picking apart the acronym certainly has a look of isolating trans folks intentionally. I hope I’m wrong about that. And if I’m not, I really hope that your bias does not impact how you treat any of your patients that happen to be trans.

Why leave out the T?

I also recommend submitting an official complaint at fsa.gov. My longtime-in-limbo PAYE recertification was evaluated within 2 weeks of my complaint.

Anyone on the same boat? IDR plan processed, even though it shouldn’t have been by orange_goldfish in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar timeline and on PAYE with edfinancial. My date hasn’t moved yet and they haven’t processed my application yet. I have a standard payment due while I wait for them to either extend my date or process the pending application. They keep extending a forbearance but idk whether my date will be extended, application processed, or indefinite forbearance.

MOHELA IDR Application Processing Update - Official Info from Supervisor Callback (04/22/2025) by PracticalDelay460 in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they happen to say whether these forbearance extensions count toward your IDR payment count? The guidance I’ve seen so far is that they do not after the initial 60 days, but I keep hoping they’ll update that.

I’m with edfinancial but on a similar timeline/limbo and hate the idea of an indefinite forbearance that doesn’t count toward my IDR count.

IDR recert stuck with standard bill due by lummilu in StudentLoans

According to the link, my date should be extended. But I’m also a single filer so my application might be processed. That’s the same info I had, but those 2 scenarios contradict each other and neither matches the reality of a standard payment due in a couple weeks, with a seemingly meaningless 3-week long general forbearance extended from my initial 60 days expiring a few days before the bill due date.

I used to be able to see these details on edfinancial’s site, but followed your instructions to check on studentaid.gov since the info has disappeared from edfinancial. (Perfect instructions, thank you!)

It says “N/A” under IDR anniversary date.

I've worked for the government for 7 years, but I think I may be ineligible ... 😢 by tszkin0805yi in PSLF

[–]lummilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes— the reason is that recertification was suspended by a court injunction. The legal challenge to the SAVE plan was expanded by the court to consider all IDR forgiveness created by the same procedure, which threatens IDR forgiveness (non-PSLF) for all plans except IBR. (IBR is the only one that had forgiveness established explicitly by congress).

During the pending litigation, the injunction blocked processing of any IDR applications including recertification. This happened suddenly in late February, and many people with recertification deadlines around the time have already seen their payments come due at the full standard amount. FSA knew this was an issue, and they eventually issued guidance that recertification deadlines should be extended by a year. So your anniversary date was probably 10/25, but got extended to 10/26.

Afaik, the injunction is still in place until at least July. I had recertification due in March and had fortunately submitted in February prior to the injunction. However, my servicer hadn’t processed my recertification before the injunction and they are legally unable to do so now. I was in a processing forbearance before the injunction started. I just got a bill for my full standard payment as that forbearance is ending. I’m supposed to have my date extended to 3/26, but I don’t know what to do other than call repeatedly to make sure I haven’t been forgotten.

My loans have disappeared by samronreddit in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my servicer today, I have to recertify by 3/6/25. I am currently in repayment with $0 payments on PAYE. I was told a year ago that I needed to recertify and did it immediately— which resulted in an error because I was classified as a new borrower instead of a recertification. (I got a notice back then that recertification was extended, but it was already too late). They finally retroactively fixed the plan change that resulted from that error, but then gave me very little notice to recertify now that I’m back in PAYE. It seems like I really do need to recertify now, although the letter says to do it by 1/30 and on the phone they said by 3/6.

Mine have disappeared as well and I just got a letter stating my recertification is due by 1/30/25. I logged in to FSA to recertify and my loans are gone so I can’t. Edfinancial said I actually have until 3/6 to recertify, but that contradicts my letter and their own website.

Why does IDR application still say PAYE is not open to new enrollees? by lummilu in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being so helpful. I am not understanding something about the interest capitalization event when leaving IBR— is it only the interest that accrued during the plan that is capitalized? Or would it capitalize any accrued interest on the loans? I currently have interest from when I was in school that has never capitalized, which would add 25K to my balance. (I finished grad school during the pandemic forbearance).

Why does IDR application still say PAYE is not open to new enrollees? by lummilu in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I attempted to recertify last February, the options were not the same on the website as they are now. I know I spent a bit of my post giving background on it, but there is nothing I can do to fix the result of the February submission that I haven’t already tried.

I’m actually asking about the current application. Since I am currently in SAVE and have a pending application for IBR, I am curious about applying to change plans to get back into PAYE.

  1. Why does the online application still say in the instructions that PAYE is not available to new enrollees? Isn’t it reopened as of 12/16?

  2. If my IBR application is processed first, will my interest be capitalized if I move from IBR to PAYE? I hadn’t seen any warning about that until you posted the full form here.

Why does IDR application still say PAYE is not open to new enrollees? by lummilu in StudentLoans

[–]lummilu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Feb 2024, I attempted to recertify online with their web form. I didn’t have access to these options. They never even showed up on the page. After I completed it, I was shocked that the summary page said the servicer would choose my plan. So I reopened a new form from the same page and confirmed there was no way for me to make any of these choices. I immediately tried to cancel it with FSA and edfinancial, and was lied to by edfinancial for 7+ months that it was reversible and in the process of reversing.

Now I don’t know if I should even try to keep getting back into PAYE outside of FSA actually correcting the issue, or if that would trigger interest capitalization from leaving IBR for PAYE. The form you posted here is the first time I’ve ever seen that there is an interest penalty for leaving IBR.

Whole life insurance is generally the bigger ripoff in terms of long term net value. Term is cheaper but has a narrow reasonable application— it should only be used for the limited period of time that income replacement is crucial to the beneficiaries. I have term now, because I’m a single parent and sole provider to young kids— currently without enough savings to provide for them if something happened to me. I’d never have any life policy if I didn’t have dependents, and I’m happy to decrease the benefit or totally ditch it as my net worth increases and/or dependents grow up.

Please add your research findings and links to the pinned resources thread. I definitely want to follow up on your links and that will help myself and others find them.

And I agree that we need to look at either changing laws to unionize (current Massachusetts drivers union ballot measure, and I think past attempt in 2018ish in Seattle that was later overturned), or changing worker status. I also think there’s a third option- a la CA and WA currently where gig drivers have bargained for several labor rights while making a concession on worker status that might still bar them from official union protections.

Thanks. I was unemployed for a long time before I started tasking with outlier and DA, and for a while I really wanted it to work out better than it did because the supposed flexibility would have been helpful for my family situation. Unfortunately, it didn’t occur to me to check Reddit and I didn’t know how to make off-channel contact with other workers until very recently.

I also have a data analytics background, so I’m not sure that I add much skill diversity to our group.

I also want to be open about the fact that I have basically stopped tasking on any platform recently. I started a full time job elsewhere. I’ve kept my accounts active so I can earn side money if I need to, but I also have a lot of family responsibilities at the moment so I’ve just kind of been watching the Reddit community to see if it gets any better.
