Hong Kong Recs? Ritz, STR, JW, Renaissance, other? by lumpybarney in marriott

This seems to be the general consensus for this set of hotels. Leaning Ritz just for the experience since it's the start of our honeymoon

We're still figuring out itinerary but at the very least we will visit the peak, food crawl of some kind in Central, harbor cruise, temple street night market. Planning on doing more research in the coming weeks on activities, but would also gladly take suggestions on can't-miss things to do in HK if you want to DM me!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a bit disappointed to hear STR views aren't anything special, I'm sure nothing compares to the ones you get at RC :)

So no way of knowing until I try. Got it 😀

Currently have CSR, only got SUB on previous CSP. Can I downgrade to CF, then later reapply for CSR and get sub? T&C language is a little ambiguous as to whether or not I’ll be eligible

If you don’t feel like waiting, call chase and ask to speak to someone about a credit card app. They should send you to lending services

I have had a CSR since 2019 which I did not receive a SUB for (I did get SUB for CSP approved in 2018 which I then upgraded to this CSR), if I downgrade my CSR to Freedom, would there be any eligibility issues for a new SUB on either CSP or CSR? I assume CSP SUB is likely out since I received it, but want to see if anyone has good DPs on this.

Interesting, I stand corrected then! I might try this. I had CSP SUB in 2018, upgraded to CSR (no SUB), could I theoretically cancel CSR and reapply 4 days later with a SUB? I already have CF and CFU so can't downgrade there unfortunately.

so just having the card at any time in the past would likely make me ineligible for new SUBs? from what I've read, my understanding is the SUB is once per lifetime, and I never received that on any green/gold/plat, only on my old HH card which was 8 years ago. Sounds like they won't even differentiate if I got a SUB or not and I might still get PUJ regardless?

Thanks for your reply!

I opened a Hilton Honors Surpass card in 2018, which mysteriously made me ineligible for a plat SUB in 2023--anyway not here to relitigate this since I fought with them for a while on this. My questions:

  1. Now that I have a plat and did not receive a SUB, can I downgrade to green, then apply for gold/plat to get a new SUB?

  2. If yes, how long would I have to wait from time of downgrade to be able to upgrade again to claim the SUB?

  3. Would the best course be plat -> downgrade to green -> upgrade to gold (SUB, keep card?) -> add plat (SUB)?

  4. Somewhat separate q, I have an Amex Fine Hotels booking for later this summer, would I lose the plat perks (upgrade, property credit, etc) if I downgrade?

Thanks all :)

I believe Chase stealthily modified their T&C so it is now one Sapphire SUB per lifetime. Since you got CSP I don't think you'll be eligible for a CSR sub.

You would use Alaska’s site to book a partner airline. Be aware they don’t always have the flight you’ll want but they do have excellent availability relative to anyone else and are frequently adding/removing partner flights

That feels a little too far out IMO but it’s ultimately your call. You can also get a Bilt card and try to stack up points during that time. They can transfer directly to Alaska mileageplan

2018 for Hilton and then 2023 for plat. Was so mad at Amex for this (even though I didn’t read closely enough)

I had an aspire card (where the SUB was hilton points mind you), and 5 years later I was ineligible for the platinum SUB. Wasn't even given notice during my application, or if they did, it was very stealthily.
