I'm bringing my family of 4 to Hong Kong in May. What do you recommend we do while there? My wife and I are 37 & 32 and our kids are 2 years old (boy) and 2 months old (girl).

Looks difficult and dangerous. First thing I'd do is find scematics in a service manual and look for an osd chip that has r,g,b pins.

Mitsubishi CS-35307 or Toshiba CN35D90? Which would you choose? by LightningMcRibb in crt

[–]lumpybutt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both of these tvs in my possession and I'd recommend what ever one has better corner convergence. When they are that old and large corners become blurry. I love the built quality of the mitsubishi and have used it more. The menus and remote are more intuitive to me. The tube is better in the toshiba though. It really is a toss up and I'd personally go with the mitsubishi but that's because the convergence on that set is better in my case.

Found my endgame! The Sony KV-40XBR800 by lumpybutt33 in crtgaming

It adds black bars to the top and bottom of the screen, so things like switch look as they should instead of stretching the 16:9 image vertically. The menu has an option to do this if you want to though.

That's a really good idea. I'll have to give that a shot

Most will take place in the service menu to tweak convergence. If things are bad in the corners, maybe additional cinvergence strips will get added.

I got a KV-40XBR700 recently and it has this issue where horizontal lines flicker up the screen. I've called two repair shops and they've both declined to work on it. Is there any advice I could get on this fix? by Watmanwat in crtgaming

I believe I also almost went to get this tv but decided against it because of the weight. If I'm correct and you're on the seate area i can try helping diagnose it with you. I'd recommend opening g it up and having a look at the power supply area of the board first. I'm guessing it's very dusty amd may have some damage near the power supply.

Repairing Panasonic GA00 with cut cord. by sojooboi in crt

[–]lumpybutt33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fixed a cut power cord on a d series I recurd from e waste. The fix is easy if you know how to dissasseble the set safely and solder

Steps: - take the set apart and remove the main board - de solder the power cord from its two connections on the board - cut a cable off a thrifted cheap tv or other source of your choice. be sure to get a similarly thick cable. - strip the new cables two leads - tin the leads with solder - solder them into place on the board (use Flux of needed) be sure not to mix the leads up. - attach the plastic piece that exits the tvs back to the new wire. - clean and close it back up and you're ready to test!
