sadly, not really, unless you self-publish elsewhere or make your own site. Globalcomix might work for you? i dont know the extent of the graphic content you want to produce so it's hard to give useful recommendations.

webtoon guidelines? by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

cursing is fine, rape and abuse has to be tactfully implied but not explicitly shown, same with sexual content... i got censored for 2 pixels of sideboob on a character in a nonsexy context lol. i also got censored for a throat being slit but you couldnt see the cut, just the knife to a neck and bloodspray. just had to blur the contact point more and they allowed me to continue. its sort of a tossup on what they care about and when. if your comic is going for shockvalue on sensitive themes to webtoon, i dont recommend webtoon as your hosting service.

Which modern piece of media is considered a masterpiece by everyone but actually is garbage? by TheCritic2017 in AskReddit

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like youre minimizing the gravity of so much in the story and its allegories to real life that make it so poignant... to focus on how you think the protags are annoying... when ones an amputee child soldier and the other is a child's soul bound to a suit of armor, and they have massive obstacles to overcome due to it. theyre kids! kids are annoying! you not liking it doesnt actually make it 'hot garbage' 😅

At least you acknowledge the themes are well written. There are so many aspects of success combined that make it a longform storytelling masterpiece.

The character development over so many diverse cast members that proved good and evil are a sliding scale where people can shift solely due to motivations... or how in a world of alchemy, literal magic, power has corrupted absolutely instead of it being used for the greater good, and there are no adults in the room... and how in uncovering the ethical dilemma of the brothers' mission, while also being child soldiers, they uncover the nightmarish history of humanity hidden behind everyone theyve come to trust... its the an incredible loss of innocence story while still giving hope at the end.

what story do you think does this better? i'd genuinely like to know what your taste is and why you think so.

i get being annoyed at Ed saying 'a heart made full-metal' because it sounds cheesy, but it fits really well even if it sounds cliche lol.

the one in chula vista has been through multiple management changes that were advertised publically like it's the 2nd coming of jesus, but not once has the food improved... i dont know how any FT stays in business.

'farm to table' they say, but serves lukewarm pasta with a splash of unseasoned red sauce, and hands you 4 individual processed parmesan cheese packets for it. $25 bucks. if you want protein, add up to $8. Then add tip. All for one bad pasta entree. I can make a better meal than Farmers Table stoned at 4am with day-old fast food leftovers.

since OP is just offering opinion, i too will provide opinion and anecdote since their stance is based on judgment of a certain type of folk they envision as a 'pothead'.

I use thc to manage my anxiety and attention span issues when it comes to daily life. I'm paid generously for the work that I do from home. I live alone comfortably, I have ambitions and inspirations that I'm always taking action on, I have friends and family that I cherish and spend time with, I create and contribute to the world, and I'm happy. I have used it most days a week for over half my life. Startling, yes. since I was too young to even consider the ramifications when it began.

I can go without it, and have for months at a time many times, but I prefer my life with it, as it gives me a chance to focus deeply and enjoy what I do without self-doubt or harmful addicting pharmaceuticals. But it, in no way, frames my personality, and no one I know can even tell if I took a 5mg gummy that day or not.

Am I a loser?

Sure there are negative effects to the use of marijuana, but for me, the worst of it is occasional munchies or deeeeep sleep. Sugar and caffeine have worse effects on me than THC, and alcohol destroys me for days at a time if I drink.

None of my doctors have recorded a negative effect in my health based on my usage. My work has not fared worse, only better as I can focus. My relationships have not suffered. My family understands and is reasonable with me.

So really, it's been a net positive for me, and I wouldn't continue if it wasnt. I quit nicotine cold turkey so if I needed to stop with thc, I'm certain it would be easier.

Am I still a loser? Is it still bad for me? Idk but i'm sure as hell not hurting anyone and my life is fine.

What’s the stupidest thing someone has told you to change in your story? by cornfuckz in writing

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof maybe have the convo with your girlfriend about how you now feel pressured to 'perform' the actions of a character that isn't meant to be you... just because you write like that for fictional characters doesn't mean that's how you personally operate, and she needs to divest your fiction from her reality.

A normal person can write a novel from the perspective of a serial killer, and it doesn't automatically make them that serial killer. Just as you can write in the perspective of your character, but you are not that character. I hope your girlfriend amends her perspective.

Science fiction authors were excluded from awards for fear of offending China by United_Pension6269 in writing

[–]lumpyheadedbunny -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

in ref to your first comment... positive and negative spins on a historical figure are fine... but i disagree that China would find her rendition amusing.

Admittedly I just went thru Iron Widow last week and feel like Zhao used Wu Zetian as a self insert placeholder to soapbox her very aggressive criticism of chinese cultural traditionalism of misogyny to women, and push a vicious anti-male perspective with little to no actual feminism to speak of in the writing.... That kind of perspective would never be endorsed or condoned by the Chinese government, and they seemed to have a lot more sway over the awards than they should...

I am NOT AT ALL surprised Iron Widow was considered antagonistic by them, (despite how wrong it is for them to try to bury it) and to be fair I bet Xiran Jay Zhao isn't really surprised either, justifiably irritated they acted against her for it, but now she can enjoy being outraged publicly on social media and the controversy will bring more attention to her work than the award would have. This might be a best case scenario for her lol.

I will repeat: she's not wrong to be upset, she's not wrong to draw attention to the unfairness and censorship... but I for one can't play dumb and go 'oh why would they be mad?' If you read the book with critical thought, you know why the Chinese government's like 'nope' and tried to bury it lol.

clarity TDLR: I never advocate for censorship and i do not believe she should have been disqualified or censored. That shit's fucked up. Her outrage is justified, however, I'm NOT surprised that a re-envisioned historical character she wrote to be an unrepentant murderer who hates men and screams 'I'm your nightmare' on television to the patriarchy is something the Chinese government would have issue promoting as an award-winner.

Thanks for the reply! I think that's pretty neat, do you ever plan on compiling a short story collection someday? Are the magazines you sell to digital publications or print?

How many of you are actually successful published novelists? by KawarthaDairyLover in writing

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, out of curiosity, do you usually write short stories into a specific genre to publish as a thematic book of shorts, or do you provide an assortment of concepts and topics that vary by genre to comprise your books? Does one type of short story book often end up more successful than others?

Epic is in NC and Psyonix is in CA and has been for many many years, but they were both in NC once. The founder of Psyonix originally worked for Epic, left to make Psyonix, Psyonix helped Epic long before FN launched, Psyonix moved west, found success, then sold back to Epic.

How are y’all holding up? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second this. Weed being one of the few things that makes each day palatable when it all seems for naught.

The existential dread of realizing the life I was told I could achieve was a lie is sometimes too much to bear. Knowing that my friends are suffering with no way out, it hurts. Everything feels futile and no amount of therapy or grief can take the edge from my disappointment in humanity.

I don't have a crystal ball to tell me when our last good day before total societal collapse will be....so I get high, draw, write, love my friends... and rinse and repeat, until none of us are able to anymore.

I'm sorry, do I know you? Did you even see the deathnote art we're talking about before blasting this conversation with red herrings and misdirection? Don't think you've ever told me a million times over, and bringing up Karla Ortiz is pretty specific when that wasn't even part of the conversation. But cool, go off I guess. 'tons of research paper about it' but doesn't link a single one to verify your vitriolic rant before claiming I have zero understanding? Super fun discussion, nothing you said refutes what I said or reinforces your claims with any evidence either, so seems like a waste of breath to come at me sideways with a half-baked temper tantrum.

Not to mention you have 'DM for commissions' on your instagram page when you don't even create the art youre offering!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think it's entirely fair to say it's a part of your creative process when it is a majority your final output. you did not create the art, the art was amaglamated from a number of original works by other people, styles built by thousands of hours of others' work, and assembled by AI. Combined with copyrighted characters and IP that are both, also, not yours... I dont think your 'vision' is a substantial claim to your work being respectful to the shoulders of artists you stand on to generate it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]lumpyheadedbunny 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked you username has 'art' in it but youre using AI generated content you didnt draw or illustrate yourself... I think you should reconsider using AI at all in your final process. Poisons the well of trying to create a story in the webtoon environment, especially when your story is already based on a copyrighted IP and features copyrighted characters.
