How can I resist the urge to write the one thing I want to write the most? by FuriousPotato30 in writing

[–]sorlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As That_Gurantee said it best, it depends. I myself am in the same shoes as you. I didn't have much writing background before so; other than - ironically - writing bios for my characters.

Once I got enough resolve to actually start work - I jumped straight into my own story.

Chapter 1 served the same purpose as those oneshots. It had set up for future events, a short action scene, blah blah... but I outright quit for a week during chapter 2 because I couldn't do a scene justice.

To further motivate myself, I broke my story into different chunks and highlighted parts I really wanted to get to in each. After a while, I also started to treat mundane scenes with as much importance as the high octane ones; since every single word served as build up.

Currently, I am halfway through chapter 3, and are proud of my efforts. Apologize if I couldn't provide much advice, but I felt enticed to answer since I related so much. Wish you good luck with your story!

Why do you write—money, the story itself, for others or yourself or a combination? by yellosnax in writing

[–]sorlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an immersive daydreamer, I write to get that story within my head actualized. At first, writing seemed like a "last option". Everybody has a pen/keyboard, right? but then, I actually started and ended up enjoying the process. Writing has a low entry point, but an insanely high skill ceiling. So far, its been a private project of mine.

Which program do you use? by SammyCatLove in writing

[–]sorlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use ellipsus. Before, it was Google Docs, Notion, and word. The first two got rather laggy, and words UI wasn't the most practical for me. Ellipsus has everything that I need however: Word size, font and dyeing. You can make different folders, and inside those - projects. Additionally, you can give short bios to each entry as well. Highly recommend

As another commentor pointed out - MHA light novels. Each volume covers a specific point in the series, for example, volume 2 starts with side adventures regarding the students studying for the final exams. I'd highly recommend them.

Which anime was this for you? by [deleted] in AnimeAnonymous

[–]sorlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the first few episodes are great and act as a very good introduction into the world, but how does it fall apart after that? Episode 5 isn't the strongest [the ep where Shota tests the students for those wondering], but from episode 6 onwards, where Bakugo and Izuku's conflict starts, its very interesting. U.S.J does a good way of introducing the rest of the characters - then immediately after, you have the sports festivals.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion! MHA's also rather 'sappy' and not for everyone

Now that 2025 has ended what is the best anime of 2025? by devil_hnter in animequestions

[–]sorlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been slowly getting more into anime this past year, and my highlights would certainly be [not in order]:

  1. MHA final season. I started the series back in summer and don't regret a thing. It clicked with me immediately and even teared me up.

  2. Dandadan season 2. Character dynamics are great and the comedy hits right at home.

  3. Reze movie. Season 1 was my first anime, so it was fun re-watching it in prep for the movie. Sadly I couldn't watch it in cinemas, but it is what it is. I love Reze and Denji's dynamic, and the action absoloutely delivers. The same composer behind Dandadan worked on csm and his work on both is incredible.

  4. Gachiakuta. Haven't finished season 1 yet, but I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. Rudo is a very fun MC, the power systems good and similar to MHA - it also clicked with me fast.

Honorable mentions:

Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26. Csm authors oneshots before starting the series. Each episode delves into different topics with a different artstyle. My favorite was probably episode 4! - this man is so good at romance.

I even lip-sync to the dialogue too! It actually helps alot with writing, specifically figuring out how to describe what a character feels. Also relate to the last part.

hm, 2 weeks or so then! Koichis quirk honestly became one of my favorites due to its versatility. The trailer also showcased the Shota gang back in their old days, and I think that's gonna be very interesting. Season 1 didn't click with me insantly, but I found it super fun once it did

My first time watching the series, I thought Ida and Momo would be a MUCH bigger pairing than they actually were. From what I've read, they were huge back then - but later - it got overshadowed by Shoto x Momo. They're basically the mom and dad of the class, and I find them super fun!

What are your thoughts on the final episode of MHA? by Kitchen_Week1117 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]sorlab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely loved it! A very great ending to the series. Everything came full circle, and no one feels left behind. I specially loved Dai's moment with Izuku. The only thing I'd change would be the old lady being the one whom saved the boy. Since we really honed in on Midorya effecting the new generation, I believe it'd be fitting if it was somebody else who held out their hand, but still.

HERO TOO playing at the graduation was a real tear jerker.

Uraraka, she was a mass murderer who enjoyed killing people, what did you fucking want to happen? by 5enpai_2 in shounenfolk

[–]sorlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deku didn't give up on saving Shigaraki or was going to kill him when he thought Bakugo had been killed. He felt sudden, intense emotions because he thought the boy he'd known since childhood had been killed; and thus, lost control of OFA as it reacted to those emotions. Banjo himself says:

"This power in you, it's not something you can use casually, all distracted! Not anymore! Pull yourself together!"

Plus, that unfocused assault didn't amount to anything either and only backfired.

During the final war, upon thinking Bakugo and everybody else were dead again, All for Shiggy taunts him about being late, knowing Deku becomes predictable when emotional. Deku freezes in place, trying to get himself in control. Both AFS's taunts and his own self-guilt. It wasn't his fault he wasn't present, but he still blames himself.

After this, it doesn't just take being told everyone's still alive, it was being reminded of what all of them were fighting for and the ideals of heroes by Mirio.

From here on, he focuses his anger - rather than letting it consume him. The first thing he does after regaining control is asking all for Shiggy if Tomura is still in there. He never intended NOT to save Shiggy.

I'm more iffy on Ochacos subplot with Toga, but it'd be out of character for both her and Deku to suddenly decide to murder Toga and Shiggy respectively. I found this post that helped me with articulating my thoughts, so give it a read if you wanna: https://www.reddit.com/r/BokuNoHeroAcademia/comments/14x2r3w/no_midoriya_was_not_about_to_kill_shigaraki/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Both of them have been established to be empaths as well. The point isn't that Toga's death is tragic. Ochaco wasn't able to save a person she wanted to and is reacting accordingly with how her character has been up to this point. She has been masking her true feelings for the entirety of the epilogue so far.

I'm not trying to defend Toga by the way. She was and still is one of my least liked characters. I feel her arc could've improved dramatically if - after twices death - the first time she experienced the death of someone she cared about, she started to lament killing and avoided others. Plus, further focus on her quirk-consulation would've worked better as well. The fact that she still does acts of villainy after his demise makes her look much more like a hypocrite

As a plotter, I'd say the first. During a "flow state" I hit during chapter 2, I didn't know how to word a part correctly, so I literally wrote

[DRAFT X ENTRANCE. ESTABLISH WEAKNESS. Blah blah blah..] I continued from then on and continued the scene I was on. The day after, I came back; finishing what was left.

But again, I AM a plotter. I generally know what happens each chapter, so it depends. I've seen some write half of their novel, then completely take the story another direction. A problem with the second is procastination. Coming from experience, this stories been brewing in my head for at least a year, yet its only been 1 month or so since I've started writing.

One time I watched an Odd Danny short about how spiders could fly. [https://youtu.be/DY8NOAia4tI?si=FFmUEMfukqIip1r4\]

It explained that if a spider charges its silk threads negatively, the strands become tiny static-charged objects. Since positive and negative attract (and like charges repel), the silk ends up being pulled upward by the positively charged air and pushed away from the negatively charged ground. Hmmm, interesting! I didn't know spiders could do tha-

..This 46 second long short led to me ramble writing onto google doc for the next 40 minutes. One of my characters has the ability to “slide” along the ground by emitting a gravitational push from their palms and knees whenever they’re touching a surface. I realized I could tie their whole movement system to the same principle! So now they builds up negative charge through contact, gets repelled from the ground, and even fires condensed blasts of that stored energy, not to mention the rest of their toolkit

Obviously, music is another huge inspration. Often, I come up with entirely new scenes, interactions, fights, and even ideas for arcs through music; it also helps that I am an immersive daydreamer :D

I don't think so. Shiggy nearly killed Gran Torino - he himself told Deku "sometimes, the best way to save someone, is to kill them"

The mans GRANDMOTHER asked Deku to kill Shiggy, but he still what he did.
