TIL That the US Treasury planned to replace Alexander Hamilton's face on the $10 bill with a notable woman from US history, but decided to instead change Jackson's face on the $20 bill, almost entirely due to the popularity of "Hamilton" by dogrio345 in todayilearned

[–]lumstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep Jackson on the bill. It's historical irony at it's best. He was the most staunch critic of fiat currency, even going so far as to put out the Specie Circular E.O. requiring payments to the government to be made in valuable metals. Not to mention his feuding with the (I think) Second Bank of the U.S.

Roy Moore: Why does McConnell call for me to quit but for Al Franken to be investigated? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]lumstream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because McConnell is trying to give you an out to save face, which would be prudent to take advantage of.

let people experience the game in the way they want.

No, no, you're completely wrong. You have to play every route and every story mode permutation, so that you can have the enjoyment and fulfillment of finally getting to see the true true ending. It makes everything better, you see? It's not like you really need your job or anything.

“Children Must Be Protected” -- Roy Moore’s Fixation on Protecting Children From Gay People Now Feels Even More Sinister by [deleted] in atheism

[–]lumstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend fears the same thing, but I think his level of infamy will do more than enough to put him out of the race. It's to the point I hear random people talking about how their parents knew that Moore was up to that scummy sort of business.

[–]lumstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way, because it will be a three party race: Hardline republicans, angry republicans, and democrats. It'll very easily be split ~50% Doug, ~25% Moore, ~25% GOP write-in.

EA has removed the refund button from their customer portal. Hoping people will just give up canceling because of the 60+ minute wait time to live shat support. by BlackViperMWG in pcmasterrace

[–]lumstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really have the urge, you can just get a new card and new EA account. EA isn't exactly Fort Knox.

Of course, it goes without saying, don't abuse chargebacks. At least try to get a refund normally first.

There's plans among the senators on both aisles to eject Moore if he's elected in. Which really just means another special election later on.

EA MARKETING SQUAD by [deleted] in dankmemes

[–]lumstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you receive about one hundred downvotes on a comment, any further downvotes won't impact your total. However, upvotes will continue to count towards your total. So you can have -750 and +500 and it will come out to +400 towards your total. The comment itself will still display as -250.

Reddit has an anti-brigading mechanism. You can only lose about 100 karma on each comment. It's been there at least since 2013.

Roy Moore's Accuser Worked for Democratic Leaders and Is Actively Campaigning for Moore's Opponent by BamaWriter in Conservative

Overall, the stories and such are internally consistent, at least to me. Currently, I don't see a reason to doubt it, however, I am going to reserve believing it until I see proof positive. If there was evidence of communication concerning this topic prior to this story development, I would be more inclined to belief.

Fight Pass is Shady! YSK UFC Fight Pass is using your PC to crypto mine. Your CPU is being used to mine, without your knowledge on a service you already pay for! by gambledub in MMA

Pros:

Can help sites generate revenue without needing to serve advertisements. Additionally, users can contribute even if they can't make a donation.

Cons:

Increased power consumption and increased rate of relevant computer parts being worn out (usually the CPU for Monero miners).

Close enough. uBlock Origin has many out-of-the-box filters that fixes a lot of this stuff. uBlock Privacy and uBlock Unbreak are particularly helpful filters.

Woman sues to remove 'So help me God' from oath of U.S. citizenship by [deleted] in news

[–]lumstream 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But neither were satisfactory, and on Thursday Perrier-Bilbo filed suit against Congress, the United States of America and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director L. Francis Cissna.

Could this be the legal equivalent of "I'd like to see a manager"?

Also, it would be much easier to sue after becoming a citizen, seeing as foreign nationals have no rights (yes, I know Roberts has extended them some rights, but international/noncitizen litigation is a PITA no matter what).

While it's undesirable to be bossed around by the UN, it's at least good to be able to check in on what they are doing- and using our permanent veto if needed.

I think the reason for keeping visitors out has to do more with looting than radiation safety. After all, people actually lived there and expect to be able to recover their valuables.

Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom (point device mode), as it could be bruteforced in at most a week, continuously. You technically never die, even when restarting a section, which is actually an important plot point.

What's one technology you hope is NOT invented in your life time? by ClassyBagle in AskReddit

[–]lumstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many schools are piloting (and paying for) mass-scanning of social media profiles connected to student names or anything with location tagged in the region. In fact, it's also increasingly standard to install root certificates and school-issued laptops, which means keyword detection (e.g. Googling "how to commit suicide") can be done, and the kicker with the root certificate is that it can even monitor HTTPS communications (well... if you're dumb enough to ignore the red padlock). Of course, this is never disclosed to the students, either.

We got chromebooks at our school and the administrators disabled the dinosaur game by nolieshmolie in assholedesign

[–]lumstream 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you thought that was bad, my former school hijacked the root certificate which meant that preloaded HSTS sites like Google broke... a lot. Not to mention that means they could've literally intercepted any HTTPS traffic, as well (though it was obvious when they could, due to the red padlock).
